You would think that there would be distribution areas, for instance east of Mississippi River, Mississippi River- Denver, west of Denver, why would a package from Tn bound for bama go the Colorado? There are regional distribution centers. THAT is where the biggest problem is. ALL north Alabama mail, whether incoming or outgoing goes through Birmingham. ALL Tennessee mail goes through Memphis. The common denominator (I call them CDs) in these distribution centers (DCs) is THE problem. They can't be fired and they know it.

I ordered a phone case one time that shipped out of Memphis coming to Birmingham. That case covered 10,000 miles and took two weeks to get it to me. It went to every state in the Southeast and some twice.
That was FedEx though.

When the government years ago decided to cut payments to the airlines they said we don’t haul for free. I can remember in the eighties loading 10000 lbs of mail on every flight out of San Antonio.

If I ordered a part from small town North Carolina by 2:30 got it next day. If I ordered same part same town at 2:31 two days later. I could order from Southern California get it in 3 days. Same part from Dallas Texas 7 days. Could call North Carolina that was out of that very part and get it 3 days later.

I used to have to pickup quail chicks from there.

My dad gets his medication from the VA. There's been a few times I've tracked the delivery from Birmingham to Charleston SC, back to Birmingham to Montgomery (even to Florida one time) and then Clanton.

I have experienced similar before Wiley. A few years ago l, I sent someone a present through a retailer that was shipped by USPS. Somehow it ended up getting stuck in GA after going from PA to AL to TX I think then somewhere out west then back to GA where didn’t move. Retailer shipped replacement and used different shipping method and person finally got their gift after 15 days. Retailer rep said they were having issues with this shipping method that used USPS for smaller packages.

I bought an item from a guy in Ashville, NC and he shipped it via USPS last Saturday. They told him it would be here on 2/25. Today (2/28) I still don’t have it, and the tracking number only showed that it left Ashville. No idea where it is presently. Good thing is it’s not something I need ASAP. So it will be mildly entertaining to see how long it takes for me to get it. If ever. 🙄

I ordered something from Bastrop Louisiana a while back. Now this is about a 4 hour drive for here. That package covered the whole country and took 12days to get here. I could have walked to that store, pick up the package and walk back home in that time. It nutz what’s going on.

Back early last year I sent 3 vintage rifle triggers, via USPS Priority Mail, to one of only 2 well known gunsmiths who work these triggers. He's in Iowa. NOBODY on the planet makes replacements fo these 1970s/1980s triggers although Timney has been begged to do so. He got the triggers, worked them and sent them back. They tracked right along and got to Birmingham. Tracking stopped. For 9 days. Then they were delivered here in Guntersville. The tracking never showed leaving Birmingham but did show delivered. Those were the longest 9 days that I have gone through in a very long time. I was almost certain that I had 3 worthless pieces of walnut and blued steel.
