Shopping for my first bike. Anyone use an e-bike for hunting or just messing around?

Primary reason for purchase is to use for hunting, but will also be used to ride the local trails and paths with the wife. Since I’m getting one she has to have one too..

Looking at these in particular for myself. Any additional recommendations or guidance appreciated.

I haven't looked up any of those, but a lot of trails ban them if they have a throttle, like a motorcycle. State parks and other public trails only allow them if they are pedal assist. Do some checking before you spend a lot of money.

I don't have one. I bet you'd be glad at some point if you bought one a local shop is familiar with for repair. I used to race and hunt off mountain bikes. It was always something. I carried a minimalist tool kit and used it.

I have one of these and I really like it. I think I paid $900 for it new on Amazon and I've been up to 35 mph on highway 35. It will haul ass, but it can be a workout too.

I think it would make a good hunting and exploring bike. I mainly ride our dirt road with it at about 20-25 mph and I only use level 3 on the assistance level (It goes all the way up to 5)

You can build your own for cheaper and have a better machine at the end of the day.

I have a QuietKat and it’s a beast. I knew I would use on certain occasions, but I have used it way more than I ever expected.
Should’ve bought it a long time ago.

My question is for those that have used them… are the ones that are $5000 that much better than the ones that are $2000. I have been looking for a while as well but have zero experience with them. There has to be a point of diminishing return, i just dont know enough to determine where that is.

They are all China made crap. US distributors order them from China, change the cheap China made brakes and gears. Then they slap some pre made cover on the frame to hide the battery and slap a sticker on them. These “manufacturers” have about $800 a unit invested in the whole thing.

To answer your question directly though the difference between the $8000 ones and the $2000 ones is most of the time the cheaper ones are hub drive which means the motor is in the rear wheel and most times it’s 750watt motors. They are cheaper because they are less desirable due to torque put out not being robust enough to handle hunting situations. If you are riding for fun on flat roads it’s fine. The more expensive ones are mid drive motors which means the motor is in the bracket that your pedals come out of. It’s is capable of more torque output without tearing up your drive train constantly. If you are going to be climbing hills and running ridges go with the mid drive. Don’t pay $8000 for that crap though. You can make one for a little over a grand.

hardcore e-cycles. dual hub motor design or u can get it with a mid drive/front hub. if you can stay on the bike, they’ll climb it. i have a “trailer” for it and have pulled 300lbs of corn on it without a single thought of i needed more power. and the owner is hands on and even sent me his cell # if i have any questions or concerns abt anything. they’re out of ohio. i got the 20” tire that looks like a kids bike bc im a midget but they also make one with 27/28” tires. zero issues yet and it 2.5 years old. holds a charge for forever and i haven’t pedaled once, just twist the throttle.

I have been looking hard at the maverick from hardcore. Its the dual hub motor scooter version he just started making. I like the concept of easy on/off but was wondering about not having the option to pedal. He said its the same as his dual hub bike without the pedals. What is your thoughts on this since you have first hand experience. Im going to pull the trigger soon and this is high on the list.

Got an Add Motor with the banana seat. Alot more comfortable than regular bike seat.

I’ve got a quietkat warrior, upgraded the front chain ring and reprogrammed the controller. It does well.


If I was going to buy a new one, I’d get a faceoff single speed. Just less to go wrong and perfect for hunting.

But building is the way to go. Buy a bafang bbshd kit from Luna cycles, with the 30T front chain ring, get a big 52v battery, and set it up as a single speed.

I’ve thought about doing that many times because I rarely ever take it off of the biggest chainring. Those dang derailleurs are the weakest link on any bicycle. I’ve also thought about putting in an internally geared hub but that’s an expensive conversion.
