A prisoner is being transferred to jail to court or jail to jail. Handcuffed, leg shackled. Why are there 3-4 armed officers? Is it for witness if anything happens? Are the guards in training and need to know how to walk a prisoner? Protecting the prisoners from the public? The prisoners not a threat? Or are they. Seems to me way over kill on protection? I’m just sitting seeing it on the news.

If the prisoner has a history of violent outbursts, more than just a single officer and handcuffs are often necessary.

Trust me, a person in handcuffs and shackles can still be a handful if they want. That situation is truly for the officers' and prisoners' safety. Always better to have too many and err on the side of caution. Plus, it is a big deterrent for the prisoner to act up.

Remember, the prisoner is fighting for what he perceives is his freedom and the officers would be fighting just to get him under control. Those are two completely separate motivations that lead to different levels of fight in the person.

Protect the prisoner, protect the public. I know plenty of em that can get outta restraints in a hurry if they want to. If they want to get at someone they will try.

I would think it's too guard against jailbreaks, thats where their gang gets together to shoot the cop and bust them out. Jawbone you should know this stuff.

Did they ever figure out if he shot her when they wrecked out or if it really was self inflicted?

I don't think anyone will know for sure but the evidence tends toward self inflicted.
