I read on another forum of a guy who came out of a central FL WMA last night after roosting a bird and there were 18 trucks already in line at 9pm.

Killed me a good one yesterday for the Mississippi opener Two beards 11/3/8” and 7” Spurs were 1/1/4” and 1/1/8” This turkey I has been around our property for six years. He’s been called to and shot at so much when you call to him he runs as fast as he can in the opposite direction. He always has ten or twelve hens with him and very hard to predict. Well yesterday I outsmarted his old butt. It took several hours and having to cross through some nasty terrain. I saw him fly down in a big hay field right at first light. He was 80 yards out so I yelped to him and he ran as fast as he could across the pasture about a 1/4 mile away. I cut through the swamp to get to the other side and now all his hens had flown down with him and they would never get close to the wood line with the wind blowing like it was. After several hours he seemed to be done with his hens and now they were back on the other side of the pasture and I cut real loud to him and I could see him gobble. A few minutes later he pulled out of strut and ran as fast as he could from about a 1/4 mile away to 15 yards out in a matter of a minute or so and was looking down my gun barrel. That was the end for him. He’s one of my biggest to date. ![[Linked Image]](https://i.imgur.com/NJjOimS.jpeg) ![[Linked Image]](https://i.imgur.com/xu2xp1T.jpeg) ![[Linked Image]](https://i.imgur.com/FPK1GHd.jpeg)

I’m out on open public in central Florida. Minimum 50 trucks at the gate. Found some turkeys an hour before sunset last night, but got 5 trucks within ear shot of them. Felt like I was in the Bayou Meto boat race this morning. Marching orders are be super aggressive, kill em or spook em! LFG! Were you at Avon Park AF Bombing Range??

MS opened today. We should be too. You're just late to the party. Lots of property in AL opened up on 3/1/25. Outlaws opened the season 2-3 weeks early, even back when we had the earlier start date. They started slinging wheat, scratch and baiting on Feb 11th and are still on their normal schedule timing wise from years back. 99% sure I heard one get his head smacked, 2 weeks ago around 7:15, when I was pulling cameras.

Hunted MS Sunday morning. Heard 2 gobbling at daylight. Couldnt tell if they were on my side of the river or in our lower hay field. It was about 715, decided to ease down towards lower hay field which is right beside the river. Just as i crested the knoll into the hay field, 2 gobblers were staring at me from about 40 yds away. They flew across the river. I'm dumb. Later in morning, about 11 I went to a different piece of property. 80 acres on one side of hwy, 29 acres across the hwy. Went on the 80 and called. Nothing. Decided to cross hwy onto the 29 acres which is a wedge shaped. Never go over there. A pipeline cuts across the bottom part of the wedge. Walked up the pipeline to the property line. No gun, no turkey vest, just looking at OnX on my phone. Remembered had a mouth call in my pocket. Winds blowing, cars going down the hwy. 5 yelps and he gobbles to the south of the pipeline about 200 yds away. Back to truck to get gun and vest, only about 200 yds from me. Set up on edge of pipeline only about 100 yards from my truck and the HWY, looking to the south where he gobbled from. Called several times with no response. A few calls later one gobbles but he is north of the pipeline behind me. So I'm trying to get around on the other side of the tree. Its thick where I'm set up and I can only shoot maybe 25 yds. I call again and he gobbles again. Sounds like he's about 100 yds. Few seconds go by and I see that white head. Coming from my right and I'm right handed, so Im in a bind. Keep looking to the right at the gobbler catching glimpses in between trees and brush. Then I see another white head, then another and another. 5 long beards, all coming from right to left. One is close, like 15 yards. He finally walks behind a bigger pine and I can get my gun up. He steps out at 20 yards, I have to shoot through small opening but I knew it was my only chance. 9 inch beard, 1/2 inch spurs. Hunt maybe lasted 8 minutes. Love getting one struck up in the middle of the day. They usually have a death wish.
