Lots of recent talk on doing away with the US Postal Service, possibly privatizing it. Guessing if it was privatized, the delivery would only be a few days/week. Maybe remote addresses would have to have some type of PO Box and go to a central location to get their mail. Most would just be digitally delivered.
Checking the mail has been something folks have done in this country for a very long time. Guessing many people would miss the daily routine.

Once or twice a week is fine with me.

Most corporations who bill you would much rather automate it than send you a paper bill in the mail. Doctors want you to visit their "Portal." The rest of the stuff in the mail box is just junk paper. Any good stuff, like motorcycle parts, is delivered by a private corporation. That basically leaves the costly and antiquated US Postal Service without a real mandate for its existence.
If they are eliminated then it will be interesting to see how the price of shipping packages is effected. And then of course there will suddenly be 639,000 people looking for a job.
Edit: Mrs. Irish brought up the point that mail that is delivered by the US Postal Service is Federally Protected and your mailbox is considered Federal Property. Interesting point and I didn't think of that.

All businesses great and small need daily mail. The problem is the management of the USPS. Our PO here has rows of fluorescent lights that are dead. I asked yesterday what it takes to get the lightbulbs changed. She said they submitted a work order three months ago to remind them about the one they sent 3 months before that. There is a hardware store across the street from the PO. Another one just .15 miles away. I'm on the county mail route but I can just about see the PO from my mailbox. Folks from the town across the river that has their own PO often have to come to our PO to pick up their packages. Our PO is not ADA compliant by any stretch of any imagination. I often help elderly people with walking problems get up the stairs to get into the place. A pipe broke in their toilet last fall. The PO was closed for 4 months getting repairs. We had to go across the river to the other PO to get our packages.

My Amex card was about to expire and they sent me a new card through USPS. My USPS informed delivery showed it was to be delivered last week. It never showed up, they sent another via Fed Ex overnight and shutdown the other card number. Guessing someone in the office took it.

Yea I check the mailbox 1-2 times per week. Only thing I get is junk mail. All bills are electronic with exception of Chattanooga Gas, they charge a processing fee for online bill pay.
Finally deported myself from the peoples republik of Kaliforkistan.

It was my youngest boys 14th birthday last week. My mother in law sent him a card with $40 cash in it. The card arrived with the envelope opened an no money inside. The card was situated in such a way that the money could not have accidentally fallen out. I called the usps to report the theft. They do not have a process to recoup the money, nor will they investigate the theft. They would not even call it theft. “Not enough evidence “

I remember as a kid it was really a big deal to get something in the mail addressed to me. Now, I absolutely hate getting mail. The wife pays everything online so the only thing that really comes in the mail is junk.

Wife has an app on her phone that tells what's in the box anyway, so unless there's something we want or need in the box we only go empty it a couple times a week. Besides, it's 250yds down to it. Same for me but about 400yrds

There’s still a generation or two dependent on the mail. They no other way and are too old to change
The post office would be better off if they were not contracting deliveries for Fedex and Amazon. Sunday’s they deliver Amazon I’m told.
I’d bet someone way up the chain is getting greased for having postal service deliver goods at a loss
