If I could live only doing half ton stuff, I would buy a truck like Irish has.
Trouble is, it won't safely tow 12,000 lbs+. I love my wife's Ram 1500 with the V6 diesel, but it just won't tote the load.
It does get over 30 MPG on the highway, if I'm the one driving it, and 17 towing the enclosed, but you better be paying attention every minute. It might tow the RV or the big tractor, but I would prefer to be watching an filming from a distance if someone tried.

2017 Tacoma 4x4 TRD 99 thousand 600 and something on it and paid off. Changed the oil and brakes. Almost time for the 100 thousand routine, not oil change time yet so, probably wait till then.
Love it, but the two negatives I don't like but have gotten used to. 1. Seat isn't that comfortable 2. Has harder gas pedal than what I like. Driving longer distances where you can't really use cruise control, makes my foot tired.
Came from a 2008 Tacoma TRD with over 300 thousand. Frame rusted, sold it and got this one.

Yeah, I love it but the seat really does suck.
From what I remember off the top of my head, there were certain year models that didn't get some kind of undercoating on the frame and a bad batch from Dana Corp that Toyota dealt with at the time.
It's been a while, hard to remember exactly. I didn't buy it new, bought it from craigslist. Ran good and drove it all over the place till one day I noticed the bed sitting down and away from the cab. Looked under it and the frame had rusted almost through.
I had got online and read about the issue, Toyota had done a recall and replaced all of the frames. I was way pass the date of the recall.

I've got a 23 model that is my daily driver, but I still have my 08 with a half a hair under 300k on it. 2997?? I think. Double cab 4X4 with the 4.0. I gotta say that it's been one of the best trucks I've ever owned. No rust issues that I'm aware of. I bought it with 148k on the odometer and have only needed a front axle a thermostat and regular maintenance since I've had it. I quit checking the oil between changes a long time ago.

About 2000 to 2004 were really bad. Toyota actually replaced frames on many. I doubt any of the big three would have went to those lengths to make it right. Tacomas don't sit well and those with leaf spring rear suspension ride rough. But they are great ,long lasting trucks. I wonder if the new Tacomas with coils on the rear ride softer.
