A valid passport is the way to go.

I have the appropriate gold star on my license, but don't remember doing anything to get it.

We have that plus the Star ID.

We've been to Europe last year, New York to London, on a 16 day cruise and this year from Miami to Los Angeles for 16 days through the Panama Canal. Both cruises we stopped in multiple countries from Netherlands to Costa Rica and we never had to pull out our passports, we also never had to exchange money. We used our Chase Sapphire card everywhere. Including an expensive ass 18k gold emerald ring for Mrs. Irish in Cartagena, Columbia.

Point being... Travelling abroad ain't what it used to be.

For years I have told The Boss she needed to get the Real ID. Nope. Now our son turns 40 on May 31st and she is in panic mode that she probably won't be there on his birthday. On Tuesday we will be at the Probate Court to have her expired passport renewed. Not to mention the extra $$$ we will spend to pay for the expedited process. mad

I got my passport in 2022 in preparation for a cruise. I may get the Real ID when my DL comes up for renewal and have both, but I ain't stressing about it right now.

Georgia had the Real ID over 10 years ago when I got my license renewed.

If your license has a star, you are already there.

I think Texas has been doing it at renewal time for a few years now as well.

I got mine this week. Waited in line for 4 hours. Our DMV needs to be DOGEd.

That is the biggest reason I haven't gotten mine yet. It was less trouble for me to get a passport than to go to the local office for the few hours a week they are open and hope I am line soon enough to actually get it taken care of.

Our office in Jackson County is horrible. The courthouse opens at 8:00, so I got in line outside at about 7:40. A sign on the issuing officer’s door said her office opens at 9:00, takes lunch from 12:00-1:00, then closes for the day at 3:00. Keep in mind, there’s only 1 person in this office and she has to close throughout the day when the next person in line has a driving test. She’s only there 5 hours a day, and it’s terribly inefficient. I knew it was gonna be this way, but I just went ahead and bit the bullet. I’m gonna renew a passport too, but was afraid it wouldn’t be back in time for a flight next month.

I got mine a few weeks ago and waited quite a while as well. It blows my mind that they are so inefficient in something you are required to have.

Yep, old news in Florida as well. Had the star id for many years.

Wouldn’t a passport simply be easier. 5 mins filling out out and then wait a couple of weeks

What gets me is Alabama will not accept a valid passport to get the star drivers license . You have to have more . crazy

Adult passport costs $130 and up to a $35.00 processing fee. Guessing a DL is much cheaper and if you don't plan on leaving the country or flying, then do nothing.
