Any situation where a person would want some type of pond grass? My lake stays clear all the time and the water rises and falls with the seasons. I try to fertilize but I was just thinking about some type of water grass that might be beneficial.

I'm no pond management expert, but I would be careful about putting anything other than maybe cattail in a pond. Cattail gives bait some cover near the bank. Although I have seen ponds completely fill up with cattail too but I think its because of the natural sedimentation and build up of organic matter. Aqua vegetation will take a pond completely over and you would likely regret it. If you are throwing Fertilizer to it as well I would be very careful of Eutrophication. You could get an algae bloom and a mess on your hands. I'm assuming you want this for fish management? I would be happy I had a clean pond and go the artificial cover route to help the fish. My Dad just had to have 2 of his cleaned out last year due to vegetation and silt in. Killed all the fish I had raised in them and now one leaks. Be careful what you are asking for. Everyone else is fighting to keep vegetation out. Be interesting to see if any of the guys with more knowledge chime in.

I’d definitely go with artificial structure

Stay away from aquatic vegetation. The wrong kind and it will take off. The you will be spending a lot of money to kill it plus adding grass carp. Best structure out there is cedar trees. If not cedars around, then make some nasty thick hardwood brush piles.

Artificial structure is also decent, but in my opinion doesn’t work as well as real wood

I just had a pond dug in an area I had them clear when they were thinning. Had the pond guys stash off a bunch of the big stumps and root balls and set them back in it when they finished. Now I just need to get it full of water!

Great Idea! I have seen old tires fastened to a post so they stand up used to make good cover. Easy on a jig too.

Thanks, kinda what I figured. I pushed a bunch of trees off in it 4-5 years ago and it’s got some other cover. Just thinking how to improve it.

Buy unused corrugated drain pipe off FB marketplace. Cut to length and put a few scoops of quikrete so they sink. Snagless too as long as it’s not perforated.
