I an a self confessed wood stock guy. I have been looking for a Ruger 77/357 or 77/44 for a while now and they just don't exist unless they are hiding in a safe some where. I'm not passing judgment on anyone who likes synthetic stocks, they have their place, but just not for me. I contacted Ruger an asked about a time line for building 77/44's again but the rep was very vague as to when, if ever that would happen. Now I am starting to wonder if they ever built walnut 77/44's or 357's for that matter. Are these walnut guns just an apparition?

They only make runs of the 77 series to keep supply low demand high. Last one I heard of Exile in Weaver had was $865.00 and yes it was synthetic.

They’re out there Murf, they are just super proud of them. There’s one on GB opening bid of $1799. There’s also a factory walnut stock listed for a whopping $495.

Wow, I guess they ARE proud of them and they probably still have that one. I got a reply on messenger from their Farce Book page and they said the 77/44 was the only wood stocked of the 77/ series that they made and it was currently out of production.with NO plans to revive it at this time. Sounds like the left a lot of wiggle room in that statement. I guess I will have to live with a black or camo stock. Now to decide on whether it will be a 357 or a 44.

Do you know how to find him? I couldn't find him in the user list. Was it a 44 or 357?

If you’re interested in synthetic I can put you in touch with my buddy Logan.

The 77/44 I had was total crap. In fact, I've had three rifles on the 77/22 action and haven't been impressed by any of them.

I love a challenge. Not enough to make it my life's work but there are some tricks to make these shoot pretty good if I get a chance. I'll post the results here.

And I tried them all. Trigger, bolt shims, free float, etc. I really tried to love that rifle, but in the end it was just a no-go. Hope your experience is better.

Had one of the original 22 Hornets on that action. Tried everything with it too. Never shot better than 3MOA. Not to good for a 200 yard crow rifle. The 22LR I had was average in the accuracy dept, and it was a heavy barrel version.

3 MOA certainly wont cut it for a crow rifle. Did you handload for any of those?

There is a walnut stock on Gunbroker for just under $500 looking for someone with more money than sense. They'll probably find one... it's a big world full of completely stupid people out there.

I'd rather have a Crossbow. Seriously. They don't shoot worth a crap. There is some following among the suppressed crowd I think at one time someone made an integrally suppressed barrel for these. Otherwise about as useful as a paperweight beyond 75-100yds.

I get wanting one. A handy gun I've owned 2 and a Carbine long time ago.... wound up with another 44 Carbine. Look at those.

I get it, but I have never seen one with a threaded barrel, which would take it off my radar.

The Ruger made Marlin rifles are top notch. Why not a .357 or .44 in that?

I have owned 2, both 22 hornets. Traded the blued one and sent the last one (Stainless bull barrel) off to have the bolt shimmed, rechambered and the barrel shortened to 21" and recrowned.. Shoots like a champ now. The slop in the 2 part bolt is usually the issue with inaccuracy. May not be an issue with a 44 or 357.
