Had to make myself go. Missed a bird in the fog 2 weeks ago. He gobbled behind me at 10 foot last Saturday. Heard a gobble on either side of me at daylight. Heard a put behind me that was a gobbler would mimic him . He walked right out in front of me at 25 yards. Thank you Lord I am sitting here now and drinking my coffee killing these swamp mosquitoes that have been biting through my clothes all morning. Only killed 2 this year but I love it

Back at some the new place in coffee county. A bird been gobbling since 540. He’s across the line a good bit but answering me. Maybe he’ll fly the creek in a bit. He’s in a big cutover across line.

I am a lousy hunter, but an even worse guide. I carried my uncle Thursday and we recorded a shutout; didn't hear a thing. Been a similar morning with Bustinbeards today. Didn't hear anything on the roost, and now resorting to blind calling. His cane call sounds really good, but I don't know if I have put us near a turkey to hear it.

Heard one one time. I’m going probably done.

Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

Called in a lone hen. Had a live decoy for 20 minutes. She was quiet & zero gobbled. Letting the fog clear before I move.

Quiet here. Not sure why I even got out of bed. They haven’t gobbled at our place in 3 weeks. Buddy in south AL said they are burning it up this morning. He killed one 10 minutes off the roost.

Lo and behold, we struck one! smile

He answered me about 8 and I have turned him over to BB. He's already answered him several times, so let's see what happens

Hen came back with a friend. Spent the last hour having a calling contest which quickly involved into instruction. I received lessons on yelps, cuts, cackles, and fighting purrs. They then came closer and taught me about whines, soft purrs and water drop clucks. I don’t think a male turkey is in earshot. Moving to try again.

Y’all don’t let PCP try to fool ya!

He’s a great outdoorsman and an even better guide!

He endured me stomping behind him through the woods from daylight until about 8 this morning.

The turkeys were being less than cooperative and just not saying much.

I guess he figured there was only one way he was going to get rid of me, so took he me right back to where we started at daylight. 😃

But this time when we got over there, and he must have had one tied to a tree waiting on us!

He answered PCP’s yelps down in a hardwood creek drainage shortly after 8, and we set up.

The turkey would answer but just stayed in his bottom.

We moved on him 2 more times making a loop to get down on his other side and below him in the creek bottom.

He started responding to calls and we could tell he was coming.

We heard him drumming for a good long while and it was echoing in the bottom but getting louder.

PCP was set up behind me about 30yards and clucked a few times.

He gobbled just out of sight down my gun barrel at probably 65yards, but it was thick And I still couldn’t see him.

A few minutes later I caught sight of him coming down the ridge and he stopped stood there at 55yards craining his neck staring a hole in me. I didn’t have a shot.

After a few minutes he tucked his wings and started back down into the bottom with us.

when he jumped off the ridge bank and hit the ground in the creek bottom he was at around 40yards. That’s when I moved and I got my gun on him.

He crained his neck to look hard again, I shot him and he just disappeared.

The shot stoned him dead, he had folded up in the creek bed at 9:21.

Thank you PCP for the invite, Always great to spend time and fellowship with you!

great story and pics. I'v only heard one bird gobble this season and it was yesterday while I was loading my shotgun. Never could get him to move. Came up with an alternate plan for this morning, but I only heard him clear his throat faintly once or twice.

Not a peep early. With no better options got set up in a food plot I thought some birds should be in the vicinity of and did some blind calling every 20 min or so. Lot of clucks and purrs, light yelps, I like to warm up get louder and more excited as I go- part out of theory and part sheer boredom. 3rd time calling he hammered at about 300yds away, gave him a little while he gobbled 4x there. 4th session i barely got 3 light yelps out and he cut me off at what sounded like 75 or so yds only to gobble on his own at a crow further away from me than he was to begin with after I just knew he was gonna pop up anywhere at any second and shut up.
Another swing, another miss.
