I love to deer hunt too and kill huge bucks but in todays world this is really such a tiny thing to fight somebody over. Sheesh man if the guy stole the deer and can live with it just let it ride. You will be a better man for it in my opinion. I mean do you really think a deer is worth shooting somebody over as some of you suggested? If you really think that then you need help and I hope you get it. Yes I probably would argue with him some but I seriously doubt it would ever get to a point where I would consider harming the guy. I sort of like living in my home and with my wife. I know that kind of life is a right smart better than jail and bubba.

You're right a deer isn't worth getting killed over. And I'm totally confident that's the same conclusion they would have come to when faced with that prospect. Would I really have shot them just over the deer. Naaaa, but they don't know that do they?

Call the GW on the spot if possible and suggest that they remain there until he arrives. If they choose to leave, follow and get tag numbers at least. People sorry enough to steal someone else's deer and take credit for the kill don't rate too high in my book...

after a sleepless night i would have been on the trail at daylight... if he was only 90 yards there is now way someone would have time to find/gut him...

he may have had to work but my guess is that he tried to get in a hunt the next morning before looking for his deer

Your reading comprehension is off a little dude. He shot the buck at 6:38 in the morning and let him lay up for a couple of hours before pursueing him. In the meantime, he shot another buck and actually saw it fall and die so he went and tended to it while allowing the first buck some time to expire. The Michigan gent who claimed the buck actually shot what I believe was a different buck the evening before (based upon all the evidence) and unfortunately happened upon this guy's dead buck while looking for his own the following morning. Freak, freak occurence that I believe could have been solved with the help of a Game Warden and/or the site superintendent but the guy simply handled it wrong. Not saying I could have done better....not sure what I would have done to be honest.

Unfortunately, just about anything you did would result in you asking yourself if you did the right thing. I don't believe in just rolling over and taking it - but sometimes there isn't a lot you can do about the situation. Even calling the game warden would have limited results unless you arrow was still sticking out of the buck or some proof it was your kill. But who knows, like I said - damn if you do, damn if you don't.

I think if I was in your shoes - I would have started looking for the other buck out there that was shot (his or yours).

Jughead no offense but you're reading comp is off a little too or maybe its just the way I read it. To me the author of this story arrowed that big buck and gave him time to die. When he got there he found another guy had tagged his deer and claimed it as his. The way I see it the author believes the guy from Michigan fabricated his story about shooting another buck and stole his because its a monster.

Canez,

You'll understand what I'm saying if you read the rest of the story over on archerytalk. Further....it just so happens that 3 people who have commented on this post were staying in the same camp with the gents from Michigan who "killed" the subject buck and understand even more about this story than what you can read on archerytalk or here on aldeer. I believe I've got a pretty good handle on what went down. wink laugh

Jugheads post pretty much sums up what happened.
I agree with his opinion on solutions too.Without bringing the LEO into it ,its pretty much a wash.
