It won'r be yer last miss either....
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

Ah, after you miss 4 or 5 more times, it won't bother you near as much.
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

I shot my first buck and he dropped where I shot him. He got up five minutes later and hauled butt never to be seen again. There were two tiny drops of blood where he laid. You go from top of the world to worm crap low in a matter of seconds. That shot and loss is what lot the fire in me and it has never cooled off.
You accomplished a lot by even getting a deer, much less an antlered buck in your sights. When you do that you're on the right path. Learn what went wrong and next time seal the deal.
Always remember that safety comes first. Then pull the trigger.

My first miss wasn't actually a miss. It was much worse and I can remember it like it was yesterday. I was about 12, it was probably 30 degrees, and I had sat in a wooden ladder stand, on the ridgetop, until I was frozen. So...I decide to get down and take a stroll. I had always been taught to unload my gun before climbing in or out of a stand, so I push the cartridge down into the magazine and push the bolt over it before climbing down. Once on the ground, I quietly began to ease to the edge of the ridge to take a peek over the bluff. About the time I crest the ridge, a 130 class buck stands up from his bed 50 yards below me, takes a few steps, and stops to figure me out. I slowly raise the gun and as I settled the crosshairs on him it was as if the hand of God was holding the rifle. Not an ounce of nerves as it settled behind his shoulder. I flipped the safety of, pulled the trigger and....you guessed it....click. I had forgotten to work the bolt and re-chamber a round after climbing down. With the click the buck blew outta there while I stood there wanting to cry. I went home, put my gun away, and swore off deer hunting for life. Two days later, I killed my first buck and never looked back. It happens to us all. Hang in there!

That's why this is called "hunting" instead of "killing". Don't let it bother you. At least you were in the right spot to see a goodun. Know you did things right. Just had trouble with shot placement. Could have been buck fever. Know that you are not alone. I am pretty sure we have all been there at some point. Keep at it and hold your head up. Some of us have not even seen a buck so far this year, so you are ahead of many of us! Keep on hanging in there and it will happen for you! Good luck and good hunting!
if God wanted me to be a vegetarian, he would have made shooting brussel sprouts more fun!
