Well after another saturday of our hunting being ruined by dogs running through our property while we were sitting in the stands I run into one of the dog hunters in town. I explained to him that his dogs continue to run through our land messing up our weekends which is the only time we have to hunt. Not like there group of dog hunters who hunt everyday. And if it continues there is going to be problems. His reply back to me was "My dogs cant read property lines and if something happens to one of my dogs its a $2500 fine per dog."

So my question is are they protected that much that even on my own land I have no right but to just let them run through it?Because by the time I call the game warden and he gets there they have long been run through mine onto someone elses.

it ain't illegal for the dogs to run thru your property...

it is illegal for the dog hunters to set foot on your property....or to turn the dogs out on your property from a public road.

it is illegal to shoot the dogs...

it is illegal to shoot the dog hunters...

If the dog hunter wants to act like that then ....i would slowly bring the crosshairs right between the dogs eyes squeeze the trigger ....then carry them down to his property and tell him that since he wants to be a idiot then he can bury them and then right before i got in the truck i would say ....if you were nicer i would have buried them

well he can read property lines can"t he? how would he know something happened to the dogs? I normally wouldn't do anything cause the dogs don't know any difference, but if I had talked with the guy already my next step would not be good. i will keep up with this topic cause i would be curious as to who the law would rule in favor.

Now we all know dogs running deer through 3 counties don't bother the deer.Do the dogs have tracking collars?I'm not one to shoot someones dogs but enough is enough. If the guy was a smartass about it I would do what I had to do...then do away with the evidence.."I dont know nuthin..haven't seen your dogs..I figured you had taught em to read cause they ain't been back on my property "

If this were me, after I had discussed the issue with him and that were his answer, I wouldn't mention it again. He would just have less and less dogs. I'm not by any means saying I would kill them but they would disappear.

Sorry to say you would be in the cell next to Mr.Vick. Except you would be there longer due to being a common guy and not a major NFL celeb. Just place your own standers and kill the deer.

I am sorry to hear you are dealing with some bad apples there. I wouldn't shoot the dogs, but I would continue to raise a little cain with the people. Do they lease this land or own it. I would try to keep the Gamewarden informed as possible. I hate that you are having to put up with this.

Unacceptable. If the guy wanted to dog hunt he would join the dog club. He wants to still hunt and they are preventing him from doing that. Someone is going to get killed over this chit one day.

I know the feeling. We had some guys run dogs on top of us this Sunday about 9am in the lower delta so we packed up and went scouting. As I come down a canal this guy yells to me "they are running a good buck, get ready" and I let him know that they can't hunt deer with dogs there. His response was that they were rabbit hunting. There was a total of 6-8 of these morons out there drinking ALL DAY. We see some of them again when we are going into the woods for the afternoon hunt and they say they lost 2 dogs. See them again when we come out and they are still looking....wouldn't be surprised if they met some lead out there. I actually tried to call the game warden 3 times and each time they said he would call me back.

Still waiting..........

Is it against the law to grab the dog and drop that sumbitch off at the pound?

So, basically, the law 100% favors the dog hunters, and individual land owners/lessees have no rights or recourse to stop it? Got it. mad

It would be a hassle, but going to county commission meetings, calling all the politicians you can, etc would be the best option. Confrontation won't work, you'll end up with burned woods, nails in the road, etc.

tape and video all you can

They just have permission to hunt where they start. Its not just me who is having a problem with them.A guy four hundred acres down from the end of my property is dealing with the same group.Once they run through mine they just keep going on through the next property and then onto his. After they turn the dogs loose there they go wherever the dogs chase the deer until they kill it "doe, fawn, big buck, spike" it doesnt mattter whatever they chase no matter how far and how many property lines they cross they mow them down.
