I did the same thing-Except I did it twice with the same gun. I finally put it in the safe.

Glad it turned up.I know both feelings ,the sinking feeling when you realise you don't know where it is ,and the I'm losing it feeling when you finally find it right where you put it.

I left a snub nose in the night stand drawer at my parents house that is now missing . I am pretty sure I know where it went but I can not prove it .

If you ever lose a gun and cant find it after a day or so i would report it stolen. a buddy had this happen and the police showed up cause the gun was used in a murder. when that pops up it wouldnt be a good time to still be looking for it.

I usually unload mine when I take it off and it goes on top of my safe , on top of my dresser or on top of the dinning room china cabinet. At times I have looked in those places and panicked when I couldn't find it until I remember I locked it in my safe.

It's never been lost for long but there is always a panic when it's not where you think you left it.

God forbid some of y'all ever lose something. I know it was a gun but it turned up in a place that nobody but me would have ever found it so in safety terms it was not in danger of being located by anyone else. I only have a few places where I lay one down in my house and I had tore the place up looking for it. It was the first time I had ever lost a gun. But he'll I misplace stuff all the time. We've must have some pretty perfect people around here.

Hey....no one is judging. That being said...Ive got an idea.

Next time you misplace a gun...keep it to yourself.

That should cure the pesky comments problem you seem to be having.

Glad ya found it. Back in the spring I was returning from a kayak fishing trip and dropped my boat by the storage warehouse I keep it at. As I was stowing everything I remember laying my Lowrance fish finder flat down in something and thinking "I shouldn't put this here, I'll forget where I put it". Still have t found it ...

"how in the hell do yall forget a gun"

That my friend is judging me. This is the first and only time I have ever lost a gun and I was not happy in anyway that I did. What I dont like is the assumption that I'm an irresponsible gun owner which I am not. I keep most of mine in the safe but there are a few that are intentionaly left out of the safe for a reason. My orginal question was reporting it or not reporting it. Not how stupid I was for loosing it.

No it is not. It was a rhetorical question.

I left a holstered Colt .45 on the roof of my car. It slid off down the windshield when I stopped at a stop sign. Talk about feeling dumb.

Had a pistol stolen from my truck at the holiday inn at Lake Guntersville in 1982. Got a call from my friend that owns a sporting goods store last year that the feds had called him to check the orginal owner of gun. I had bought the gun from him,he just wanted to let me know in case they called. I never heard a word from them. If they had the pistol you would have thought they would have called and maybe returned.

My son had a pistol and a .22lr pump that was his deceased grandfather stolen last year by som POS. He filed a police report. Well he got a call 3 weeks ago that the police in West Point Ga had stoped this black female pos who was acting real sketchy. They got a warrent to search the car. Well low and behold his .40 cal is hiding under her seat. Her statement was "I donts no hows that got undur tair" then questioned where she got the pistol "Donts no whats you talkin bout". Well she was convected but the trail ends with this POS and more than likely we will not get my fathers .22 back. Should have pistol whipped her with the butt of the gun until she talked. I hate a thief! mad
