I was set up on a finger ridge between a cutover and a creek bottom on a hot white oak yesterday evening. About 3 I had a doe feed in to about 30 yards, but it was too thick for me to get a shot. A little after 5 I heard something on the next ridge over and turned to the right and saw a nice buck working his way down it. He got to within 50 yards and turned and started angling away from me. He picked around and made a loop and started heading directly to me. When he got on the same ridge as me he turned to his right and was making his way to the white oak. As he stepped behind a clump of brush at 25 yards, I drew my bow. When he stepped out he stopped and was quartering away from me. I lined my pin up with the offside leg, brought it about a third of the way up his body and made the shot. It looked like a good hit. He kicked his hind legs out and headed down the hill towards the creek. When he got to the creek he stopped and I was expecting him to go down there. Well, he took off and crossed the creek. I never heard him crash. I waited about 30 minutes and eased down the tree to check my arrow. It had bright red blood on the shaft and one fletch. The other two fletches had brownish colored blood on them and it had a faint gut smell to it. I didn't think anything of it because he was quartered. I followed blood down towards the creek and it started getting spotty. I found where he crossed and went another 10 or 15 yards and decided to back out. I went back in about 7:30 this morning. When I got to where he crossed the creek I couldn't find any blood, not even what I had found the night before. The creek twists and turns all through that bottom, so I made my way along it looking for sign or him laying in the creek. After an hour of looking I hadn't found anything. So I went back to where I had found blood the night before and walked a straight line. After about 200 yards I ran into the creek again and there was a well used crossing. I crossed the creek and went a little ways and hit the edge of another cutover. I went up the first deer trail I saw and about 20 yards in, I saw blood. I looked up and there that joker was, STILL ALIVE!!! He had his head on the ground and wasn't trying to get up. All I had to kill him with was my knife I got from Skullworks. I eased up to him and leaned in to stab him ( I'm not stupid enough to grab the rack of a live deer). All of the sudden he jumped up and took off stumbling a couple of times. He went about 50 yards and went down again. So I did a repeat and he jumped up again just as I was fixing to stab him. This time he only made it maybe 30 yards. Long story short, he didn't make it to his feet a third time. I thought he was an 8pt. But turns out he had some junk in his trunk. He was actually a main frame 10pt. with double brows on both sides and another kicker off his right main beam above the brow. That makes him a 13pt.!!! He's a good buck and by no means what you'd call a monster, but I'm damn proud to have taken him with my bow and Skullworks knife.

First, CONGRATS! Second, how is the old dude in the last pic not still laughing at you trying to ease up on this buck with a knife?!!!!!? Definitely a hold my beer and watch this moment that would make any AlDeer redneck proud!!!! That's a great buck, and I'd be proud of him too. Just curious, when you field-dressed him out what did you find that your arrow hit regarding his vitals? Sounds like maybe a liver shot, but missed the lungs?
Jesus... I hope you know Him personally like I do.

Wasn't in any shape to do an autopsy. Definitely didn't get the lungs, probably got part of the liver. If it was a good liver hit he still wouldn't have been alive. It would've been a hell of a video. The old guy is Emmit. 69 years old and he gets around better than I do. Joker can climb a tree faster than a squirrel.
