ok guys. sorry its taken so long, but ive got a hell of a story! First thing I wanna say is I committed a cardinal sin. DONT FIX IT IF IT AINT BROKE! Over the last few years Ive shot and recovered 13 deer by shooting Ramcat b/h's. Well I decided this year I was gonna shoot multiple deer with multiple b/h's to do a little research. Well I decided to shoot this buck with the new rage hypo. I shot a doe earlier this year with one and was pretty pleased with the result. That being said I know as a bowhunter SHOT PLACEMENT IS EVERYTHING. A rage to the cage may be a dead deer, a rage to the shoulder of a midwest whitetail results in the longest tracking job i've ever been a part of. We blood trailed this deer close to a mile and a half. We followed blood until 1:00am then backed out and went back the next morning. Got back on the trail and followed down to the river. I crossed the river with a raft i built out of driftwood and paracord. Once on the other side I got back on blood for a couple hundred yards until it ran out again. I decided to get on top of a ridge and look down both sides of the ridge, hoping to find him laid up. Well once on top of the ridge i hear crashing just down from me and i look up and there he goes. I walk down to the last place i saw him and walk up on 3 different beds full of blood. At this point its almost 24 hours later and hes still alive. I mark the spot on my handheld gps and cross back over the river. My buddy i hunted with says hes gonna go back in this week and look for him. Fingers crossed he finds him but i have my doubts. A sad end to a very anticipated trip. LESSONS LEARNED: #1 I WILL NEVER SHOOT A MECHANICAL B/H. #2 I WILL NEVER HUG THE CREASE AS TIGHT AS I DID THIS TIME AGAIN. To make matters worse i lost my smartphone and my truck broke down on me on the way home. WHEN IT RAINS IT POURS! If i do receive any news I'll definitely post up. Sorry for the long read.

Thanks man. I appreciate that. Just like I told my buddy in Kansas I woulda done that even for a doe. He would've been my biggest buck to date.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. The guy I've hunted with in Kansas won't allow mechanical's to be shot on his leases just for this reason. He says he's tried them in the past & with these midwest deer he's had several that were never recovered due to mis-shot placement & the mechanical's failing to open on shot. His first question to a hunter is usually what kinda broadhead you shooting?! You don't hunt until you've got fixed blades. Hopefully your buddy will find him & you will at least get your horns.
