I will be hunting the next couple days in Crenshaw and Pike Co. Temps dropping a good bit and rut should be starting to kick in. I will post rut updates/info if I have any. Hope I have a lot to report (including pics)!

Well, I hunted all morning in Highland home and didn't see a deer. A TON of scrapes and rubs though. I'm hunting in pike county right now and a deer stepped out as I am writing. Gotta go

Okay, it was a yearling buck. Walked by at 20 yards. Anyway, this afternoon I decided to hunt a stand that we always see deer. "Hunting the does" in hopes of seeing some rut activity. Will update later.

I saw a few does yesterday afternoon. They didn't have any little ones in tow which is a good sign, but no bucks showed up.

Yesterday afternoon, I hunted in glenwood in pike co. Had a doe come out at about 4:45 mess around and walk into the pines. 15 mins later, a 4 point came in grunting every other step. He slowly circled around a couple times while grunting and went into the pines where the doe had gone. Good sign

Have seen two 3.5 yr old bucks in consecutive days. They were both trailing a doe. Not chasing. Just walking behind her. Keeping her within reach and not letting her get away. Does that indicate anything specific? Should I read anything into it? I still feel like we are days, maybe hours from things busting loose.

I didn't see a bunch of activity this weekend, but they are logging at my house and on my other tract.

I saw a spike and doe Saturday morning, the doe through 10 minutes after the spike and downwind of the spike. She hung around me for 40 minutes and nothing else showed up.

My father in law shot a decent 8 point Saturday afternoon walking through a greenfield by himself.

Saturday night they moved big time, Sunday there were tracks everywhere on a couple roads, even saw a few sets that looked like running.

We might actually get to see some of the rut this year, there are a few crossings on my dirt road, when they really start chasing those crossings are my tell tell sign.

Went this morning in pike co. I was in open hardwood draw that is my go to spot during the rut. I had a doe come in at a trot around 7, she either saw me or smelled me and cut hard 90 degrees and left. I thought something was running her but they are logging across the creek and I think the machines getting started sent her my way. Had another doe walk by around 8. Got down at 9ish.

I have seen a couple young bucks harassing a few does but nothing that got me excited . I have hundreds of pics from pike and 2 different properties in Crenshaw county of mature bucks and does in the same food plot eating while showing no interest in one another.

Thanks for the updates. Keep us updated. I'm hunting it a little this season but have to drive a few hours to do it, so it's nice to hear what's happening in that area before I make the drive.

Had a good 3 year old come in to a grunt on Friday morning. He grunted 10 times at least. My son saw two small bucks trailing some does Sunday. He said they were grunting. Still no real chasing that we have seen. north Pike .

There was at least one hot doe in pike co yesterday. She looked like she was running from a gang rape. Every small buck within half a mile was behind her.

Once they start in this area, how long do they usually continue moving good?

I saw a big doe just off the square in downtown Troy this morning. I figured a buck had chased her there, but never saw him. That or she was going to Bible study at the First Methodist Church.

From now til the end of the season. Obviously blue skies and high pressure is best but it's always good time to be in the woods. Have killed plenty mature bucks in hot weather. When they're moving like they are now. It's on.
