Shot a nice buck tho morning, maybe 60 yard shot. The buck mule kicked and then took off into the woods, once we got down we couldn't find a single drop of blood. Could I have missed, has this ever happened to anyone? Should I get a tracking dog?

How confident are you that you hit the deer? Aside from the mule kick.

mule kick means a hit, sure you looked in the right spot?

I've seen them mule kick on video when the shot is low. It literally kicked up dirt on him. A buddy of mine shot at a deer thursday morning that mule kicked and ran out of the field. He was getting his stuff ready to go and he came back out chasing a doe with NO bullet holes in him. 5 seconds later he did though smile

Give me bout 15 more minutes, I was dreamin about beavers..........

Yes, we saw exactly where he ran off the plot, kicked up all the dirt. I ha just shot a doe before the buck so I know I made a good shot. I just couldn't believe I couldn't find any blood.

Should I get a dog out, will he still be able to track it with all of this rain?

I have shot 2 deer that mule kicked and never found them. Only saw three tiny specs of blood and white hair. I think they are low, brisket type shots.

I shot a doe yesterday.. When I shot it dropped then got back up. When i looked for blood there was not one drop of blood anywhere. When I eventually found it it was the most perfect shot you can get. Don't let no blood discourage you

I took an offhand shot at a big 8 point once. I shot, the deer mule kicked and we tracked him for 1/2 mile before loosing blood. Very little blood. I think it was a brisket or leg hit.

Same here. Rain shouldn't be a problem.

If I "knew" I hit him, I'd call the dogs.

As long as it hasn't been a belly washing rain, a good dog should be able to track it. I would do it.

Gut shot deer bow up, if he kicked and not much blood you may have put a hole in him and he will be fine....02

You can zip one right under their belly and they'll mule kick or jump up in the air from the sensation of the bullet grazing under them. Had that happen before.

I had the same thing happen to me Tuesday. I thought for sure I had hit, but never a single drop of blood or the buck.

No blood doesn't always mean it wasn't a good shot. My son killed a real good deer earlier this year and it never bled a drop. We found him less than 50 yards from where he was shot. It didn't even bleed in the truck bed.

If he kicked and ran off with his tail tucked I would be trying to find a dog.
