Hey guys, just a quick question. I've been shooting this gun for about 3 years in a Tikka T3. Real tac driver, love the proformance, long range, groups everything. One question I have is do they make any non ballistic tip bullets for this, or does it even matter. I have had 0 deer run after the shot but my concern is the size of my exit hole, or there lack of exit hole, (finding bullets that I tried to quarter thru a deer not exit). Just give me some opinons or options please. I mainly just bow hunt but I have been wondering. THANKS!

Anything with a barnes bullet in the end of it, several companies load for them
1) federal
2 ) black hills amma
3) barnes vortex

Been shooting the 270wsm for over 8 years and have only used the winchester bullets. i saw some in basspro that werent ballistic but cant remember who made them. i was opening diff brands up looking at the tips.

You need a heavier constructed bullet. If you are shooting the lighter end of bullets then they are probably coming apart. If I remember correctly the 270 wsm can push a 130 at 3200+fps. Go with a heavier grain bullet or stay with the same grain and use a barnes or equivalent. Almost guaranteed to stay in one piece and punch through.

I shoot Federal soft points 130 grains out of my 270 WSM. Everything has dropped in its tracks. The bullet mushrooms great (stays together) and delivers serious trauma.

Try some Sierra Game Kings...not polymer tipped
Used to be used in Federal Premiums, buddy of mine uses a 270, hes killed a TON of deer with 130 gr Game Kings...but I haven't seen them in stores in years...
Cant remember any that didn't pass thru with SGKs...then again I cant remember any Hornaday SSTs or Interbonds that didn't pass thru either...

I've killed mule deer and ky whitetails with the 130gr win ballistic silvertip, no problems. good exits. bang flop. good shot placement.


i bought 150gr this year. bang flop high shoulder mature 7pt at home.

find bullet that shoots good and make good shot. won't matter what is on tip or if its bonded or not.

I've always got good exits with them. its the only ballistic tip I'll shoot

My son killed one this morning. Terrible shot placement. 130 win ballistic tips. When about 30 yds. No exit at 80 yds turn guts and hung in hide quarter. I don't care about exit if it's doing that kind of damage.

I shoot 130gr Barnes TTSX in my 270STW and still getting pass throughs at 375yds but I'm pushing that bullet 3650fps too.

I shoot the 130 Accubonds from Double tap ammo, devastating terminal performance. The 140 Barnes Vortex will also go through both shoulders.

I shoot Remington 130 grain core-loks in mine. Bang-Flop

X2. Leaves a nice spray of blood and lungs behind where the deer falls straight to the ground! I have also used 140 accubond a with great success. 270 wsm info
