Sat this evening and saw a doe and yearling, then a spike chased them out of area. Well just before dark I see movement and thought it was spike coming back but no, it was the Daddy, a goodun. I had crosshairs on him but he was walking and wouldn't stop and I fired and obviously missed. Saw him run away and didn't look hurt, so I got down and looked and couldn't find blood and maybe because it had been drizzling rain all day. I am sick to my stomach.

I would go back and check again in the daylight just to be sure.

X 2, sounds like u had a good look & probably a good aim on the deer, I would go check. Amazing how they can run off like u didn't touch them, the whole time being mortally wounded.

I shot one at 30yds this yr. He turned and trotted off like I hadn't touched him. No blood, didn't hear him crash. When I was walking back in for the afternoon (praying I'd see him if I hit him) I walked right up on him. I'd look one more time.

I walked in the general direction he was headed and he went east and there is a creek to the north but he was headed more in that general direction only problem is property line doesn't go all the way to creek. I walked towards property line looking last night in the swampy area and seen nothing.

I would check some more. A high shot, liver or otherwise, will often not bleed much if at all.

Found a little white hair and a small piece of fat. I must have hit a flesh wound on chest.

I know the feeling! Most of us have been there as well. Hang in there.

This is what i found at the spot where i shot him. A coyote showed up sniffing around the area the next morning while i was in the tree looking for exact place i shot him and so i killed her and got down and found the spot i shot deer. It looks like i may have just grazed his chest and a small piece of fat or meat was in a small patch of white hair.
