I was out squirrel hunting today, I was shooting a ruger 10/22 with a barrel conversion to 17 mach 2. I shot about 40 round and 4 did this on me kicking gun power back in my face. Do you think this is a gun issue or just a couple bad rounds. I'm have never had this happen before.

I say ammo issue. How many rounds through it?

I'm not sure I bought it used. I have probably put 100 through it since I have had it.

looks like an issue with the bolt face/chamber lock up. Something, or lack of, is letting those cases blow....

Do you think I should have it looked at or a good cleaning?

That's easy. You either need a good cleaning or you need a new extractor. It's letting the cases blow out. It's not uncommon with rimfire. Easy fix

Even with that heavy bolt handle, the Mach 2 conversions were bad about doing that because the bolt would not stay locked up long enough to prevent the cases from blowing out.

Seems like some barrel makers quit making Mach 2 barrels for the 10-22 for that very reason.

Get the F out of the BATFE. The F is guaranteed by the US Constitution. Those other letters are not.

My son and I did a conversion on a 10/22 several years ago.It ruptured the case and blew the magazine out on the fisrt shot.I cleaned the barrel until it was spotless and it fired fine for about 200 rds. Then it did it again with him while he was squirrel hunting.Cleaned the barrel again and it's still shooting fine.Seems you have to clean the barrel a lot more often than with a .22.

You may be right I have never had this problem before, I put maybe 60 rounds through it with no problem. I hasn't shot it for about a year before this happened, I shot 15 rounds before the first one blew on me. It scared the mess out of me i thought it took out my eye. I shot 30 more rounds with 3 more failures between rounds. What do u use to clean your barrel? Do they make cleaning rod and patches small enough to clean the barrel or do u just spray cleaner down the barrel.
