I just joined here this week so forgive me if there is a thread I haven't seen. I decided to try my hand at growing Dunstan chestnuts this winter. I was just wondering if anyone else on here is doing this. I jumped in a little to quick before I had read enough and have had a few mold issues but I hope I have solved that now. Just checked today and had 5 that had sprouted, now only 300 or so to go lol. Where did you find Dunstan chestnuts to plant? I bought a couple of the Dunstan seedlings and had horrible luck with them. I would LOVE to get some chestnuts. I will buy some from you if you have any extras.

I ordered from chestnut hill in pike county Illinois. I just checked but didn't see them listed there now. I'm assuming they sold out. http://www.chestnuthilltreefarm.com/I'll have to wait and see what my germination rate is with these, but I definitely do not need 300. I bought them at 2 different times so the largest part of them will not begin to sprout until march. Just remind me later on and we can most likely work something out.

I would definitely be interested in some of those AU Buck iii's and iv's. What I REALLY, REALLY want is some of the 15/16 th's American Chestnut's I've heard about.

I ordered some American chestnuts on ebay last night. The nuts look legit but they are probably not what they claim they are. They claim the nuts come from two trees that have a DBH of 13" and 15" and have no signs of the blight. At any rate, I've wasted a heck of a lot more money on less I guess.

Well maybe you'll have good luck with them either way. There is supposedly an American chestnut still living in the talledega national Forrest. There are still some native trees growing, but when they reach maturity the blight kills them. If it is producing fruit that is pretty cool, but it is also possible it could be crossed with a chinese. Fur, my dad bought some from the wildlife group last week so you may just have to call them. I have several of the 15/16's that are in the fridge that I am going to pot soon. Hoping they will make it and be blight resistant as not all of them are.

Cool article, maybe it has some genetic mutation that makes it resistant. The biggest I have found was 25-30 foot tall and about 4" @ DBH. I wish I could have seen the giant Chestnuts that used to cover the East. I think I read that at one time 3 out 4 trees in the east were chestnuts.

Called a few Walmarts around my area, they haven't arrived yet. Some said they weren't sure if they would get any this year. Yal let me know if you see any and I'll do the same.
