Is it necessary to remove the musk glands and the testicles from a buck before you move him from the field to protect the meat? Do any of you do this or heard of it before?

Someone told me this when I started hunting, they would cut the musk glands ( the patch of hair between the legs on the hind quarters) and remove the testicles. They said it keeps the meat from tasting so wild....lol

I remove the testicles as well when field dressing, Because thats how i was showed to field dress. But think it has very little effect on the meat. I cut my first set of tarsals off this year as well, threw em in a bag, and in the deep freeze. Maybe they will still stink and draw a big buck in next late season. Experimenting around. Pretty sure tarsals have no effect on the meat as well.

I am by no means a expert tho, Only been hunting hard 4 years now.

I'm sure someone can post the rule. But this is technically illegal. It falls under the category of destroying the sex of the deer.
You could imagine someone killing their buck limit then trying to pass a field dressed buck off as a doe.

They have had them all of their lives, why would it hurt the meat after they are dead.Common sense might come into play on that one.
