How much does that dog weigh? Are there any good squirrel dogs that are a little smaller? I want a squirrel dog BAD but don't really know where to start as I have zero experience. I would want mine to be a house dog when not being hunted and as small as possible.

That video is awesome too by the way!!!

Thanks Jughead, this dog tops out at 64 lbs, he'll do squirrels in the day and coons at night. This dogs sister weighs 45 pounds. For the cur breeds a female may be a better choice. You may like a treeing fiest if you want a small dog. I have seen some non traditional breeds like terriers that treed squirrels too. I am really impressed with some of the Mountain Curs some of the guys on this forum hunt with. Selecting a breed out of proven stock is always the best place to start. There are a lot of dogs that will smell and chase squirrels, but there has to be something in their dna that makes them rare up on the tree and bark on it. It sounds simple, but there are a lot of dogs out there that won't tree.
