I know I'm normally a Ford man but what can anyone tell me about the Duramax 6.6 motors? Are they any count? Thanks.

i love mine, it's a a 2004 model 6.6 lb7, strong as heck, i've never had any trouble out of the engine itself. had to replace a power steering line on the truck and batteries. i just keep the oil changed and drive it.

I've never had any trouble pulling whatever i hook to, except a tahoe one time whistle

The early LB7s had injector problems that ended up being recalled and replaced if under 10yrs/100,000 miles. My injectors in my 02 went bad outside of that range (of course i had no idea about the recall) so I paid out of pocket. Also had a blown head gasket at the same time so it was stuck at the dealer for over a month. Power hasn't been the same since I got it back. That's been nearly 4 years ago. Other than that I love the thing.

I doubt you'd regret buying a Duramax.

I've got a '07 duramax. It has 127,000 miles on it some of which were pulling a fifth wheel. It uses no oil and has not had any work done on it. I hope to get several more miles out of it. My dad had a power stroke that he eventually got rid of due to injector problems.

I have had, duramax, cummings, and powerstroke. Pulled over 20,000 with all three. All three will pull more than they will stop. If it is a good over all truck should be fine. All three motors got me around 12 to 14 loaded. Like on average 15000 lbs plus...

I think it was 7 years or 200,000 miles.

Had a 03 duramax. It was the best truck I ever had. It would out pull my dads powerjoke any day of the week. Hate I had to get rid of it.

04 got 200K hope to get 200k more. I've had to change alternated, water pump, and new front end. That's the only downside to the truck in IMO is the front end is pretty weak.

The 6.6 and Allison mating is a match made in heaven. There is a reason that try are the exact same tranny and motor as in medium and heavy duty trucks all over the market. For hasn't put out a quality diesel since the 7.3. The duramax in my opinion is the best out there and will serve you for years and years and years. I deal with and drive big trucks all day and the duramax is a tank. Change fluids regularly keep it plugged up in the winter and it will out live you

Those things are a beast! But, many improvements were made starting in 2006 and now they are dang near bulletproof! I could not recommend buying one any older than that though.

I got an 04 GMC and a 12 Chev no problems except the 12 gave me some emission sensor issues a few months back and was a major issue to fix. Other than that the 04 when I first got it had injector issues. Mechanic buddy told me to put a quart of transmission fluid in the fuel four times a year and no more injector problems.

2007 LBZ 190000 miles and love it. Don't even recommend plugging in unless below zero. Mine has never been plugged in and fired right up on these zero degree mornings we have had. I have read on dieselplace.com where people have cranked to 30 below and them not be plugged in. The front end is weak and I have had to recently replace a lot there but i run big tires and wheels.

Have a 2008 crew 2500 duramax. Has go power as well as whoa power due to Allison transmission. Newer models have exhaust brake makin it have even more whoa power. Have three in my family 2004 Dooley 2006 2500 crew and my 2008. Enough said.

I have an 04' with 190k as well. I've owned all the big 3. The duramax is by far the smoothest running, trouble free engine if the bunch. Maybe thats why yhey have the best resell. Although I will say I had an 01 dodge 1ton dually wiyh a six speed that would pull a house down. But, it slung the turbo apart. And, the bodies on the dodge is pure junk. The rattle of the motor would tear the bodies up. I had a 7.3 Ford 1 ton dually that I got about 260k out of that was a pretty good truck up until about 150k miles. Then it had one fuel pressure problem after the next. You'd have to build a fire under it to get it to start. Skip and sputter, lift pump, then injectors, then secondary pump, then glow plugs, etc.
