We had a club for 30 years that is now Forever Wild Upper Delta. Plenty of birds on the river, but can't help you getting there from the gate. If you hit the Alabama River, turn left and go south.

I've killed a many in there. I haven't been over there in several years now because of the high water we have had the last 3-4 springs. If the water is high, the hunting pressure by boat pushes the turkeys way out there and it's hell trying to get to them. If the water is low where folks can drive in there, it pushes the turkeys toward the river making them easier to get to. There's good numbers of birds out there if you can find some high ground. I've killed them wading in sloughs feeding in there. A pair of hip waders is a must if you don't want to be soaking wet before daylight. Them turkeys gobble well before daylight too giving you an opportunity to get in real tight before he flies down. BUT, it is public land and you WILL have somebody come in on you if you hunt there very long especially if one is gobbling a lot. I liked it because if you didn't hear anything right at daylight, you could start perch fishing and just ease a long catching slabs until one decided to gobble. We've left out of there many times with an ice chest full of fish and a gobbler riding in the boat too. We would set trot lines in the evenings while roosting turkeys and check them in the morning while listening for gobblers. Some good times right there!!!

That sounds like the recipe for a great weekend!

When the State took the land, for several years it was an awesome place to kill "easy" birds. Word got around. It became difficult to hunt without hunters walking in on you. They would park next to you and walk in while in on you while you were there. Birds are much fewer these days. I quit hunting there because I thought it was unsafe and there were an aweful lot of Jack Arses.
