Advise please Aldeer brethren.

Bought a new 2007 Acadia 103K miles on it now.

At 53k miles timing chain breaks and wrecks engine. After a big hassle with GM I was told by the local GMC place that they were replacing the engine under warranty.

Flash forward to Thursday night, wife calls from Greenville and says stabletrak light is on. Multiple car party trip so her and her friend leave the vehicle at the Chevy dealer there.

I call first thing this morning and tell the guy at the service dept that its parked out there and where the key is. He calls back midmorning and says it needs a coil and a spark plug..240 bucks. So I give him my card info and fix it. Whew that aint bad...

Calls back a 2pm and says we got more problems. low compression and needs engine. So I say man GM just put an engine in that thing at 53K. not sure I understand...

He pulls the history and it says nothing about new engine only timing chain in 2010.. I tell him i do not understand that one because the engine is interference engine and it was tore up.

He goes on to say its kinda of fishy that I need to go back to the local GMC place and get them to pull history to see what it says.

Well the local GMC place lost their GMC dealership due to GMC downsizing dealers in 2012. I went there anyway to check, no records available.

I made the decision to keep the vehicle for a while since it had a new engine and all that, hell its paid for and it was kind of nice for a change not having that payment.

Do I have any case yall think to get GM to step up, don't know if it has got the engine replaced or not now? I've got to dig through all the files on the thing to see what I can find.

they should be able to cross ref the vin with the serial number on the engine and figure out where the engine came from. or atleast I would think so

I doubt you will have a case. Had a similar situation with Mazda - replaced the engine, then sometime after engine fails.

The vehicle was out of warranty, regardless of when engine was replaced.

Sounds like you got lied to, bent over and had a timing chain inserted.

Keep digging and good luck.

Always keep receipts from auto work done. If you find a receipt showing that you paid for an engine and the accompanying labor charge for changing it out and you didn't actually get another engine, then you should definitely have a case against the dealership.

It's gonna cost you money but I would contact a lawyer. Not one of the ones that advertise on TV......

There would have been a paper trail at the dealer that did the original motor and most importantly at GM. You can contact GM customer service they can give you the repair history that is recorded in there system. If I am not mistaken the warranty should have been extended on the motor, I know when a motor is "replaced" the new motor has a warranty of a "new" motor. It is possible that it was rebuilt by the old dealer, but I think it is also a covered warranty product. If you are patient and keep calling and complaining you may at least get part of it paid for. As for sueing them you signed an arbitration agreement when you purchased the car and that is as far as it will go.

I have to sort thru paperwork, but I do know I got an extension on the engine. I think your right, its gonna be a struggle either way.

That is just a tough pill to swallow. I'm afraid you might mitt have a claim. Regardless if they replaced the engine at 53k or not. Fact is, it has 103 on it and it's past their obligation. It would be worth talking to an attorney. Good luck with it. As much American as I am and drive a Chevy. I hate the union driven big 3.

Load up ALL the papers you signed at the dealership, including the one that says "I Agree To Be Bound By An Arbitrators Decision" and take them to your attorney.

Legal questions need to be answered be those in the legal profession.

I've wanted to pull my attorneys' head off at times, but he never blew smoke up my ass, good, bad, or ugly.

We bought a GM certified Buick Enclave a couple years ago. Kept it 6 months and it stayed in the shop 4 of those 6 months. We contacted an attorney and he said it wasn't a lemon. We wanted them to buy it back but the best they gave us was $3000 off a NEW GM vehicle. Needless to say I'll never buy a GM product again.

Different situation but I had a Suburban that lost the tranny at 60,000 miles (original warranty 50,000 miles). I called GM and they split the cost of a new tranny which was less than a patch job would have cost. They worked with me, hopefully they will do the same with you.

I was just giving an opinion did not intend to give any legal advice, as I am not an attorney. Been reading this forum a long time seems like most everyone on here has an opinion. BTW the opinion I gave has a little experience behind the words. In the past I have owned most of GM's franchises, and have encountered this before.
Oak, hang in there like a rusty nail GM does come through sometimes.

File a claim with the BBB. We bought my wife a Saturn Vue Hybrid in 2010 and the batteries would die if it wasn't started for a couple of days. The dealership could not figure out why it was happening. We filed a claim with the BBB and GM ended up letting us go pick out a new GM car and applied everything that we had already paid on the Vue and our trade in to the new car. We were 8 months into 60 month 0% loan and they they applied everything to the new car so when we drove off the lot we were 8 months into a 60 month 0% loan. We ended up getting the Acadia and the only issue that we have had is the water pump but GM covered that under a recall.

Unfortunately you bought a car from government motors. Not surprised you had two engine failures at just over 50K miles. GMC is junk. Buy Japanese-Korean US made cars and you'll be much happier. Sorry to hear about your troubles.
