whats the closest you have ever called a turkey to you? this morn was the closest for me. had 4 hens at most 2-3 steps from me and 2 long beards that came in from behind (silent) that were at 8 steps at most. the hunt was a cool experience but resulted in in a missed bird due to the hens spooking and couldn't turn to my far right/behind to get a good shot off.

and to top this off the guy that was with me has never killed or seen a turkey in the wild.. this was his second turkey hunt ever.. hes HOOKED

This is true, first of all. I have had one walk across my legs as it crossed in front of me. It was the closet I have ever been to any turkey. But, it was a hen.

I had 4 jakes come within about 10 feet of me one morning. I could count the hairs on their little warty heads.

Had a strutting turkey come by me and I swear one of his tail feathers brushed my left shoulder... How he did not see me breathing... I will never ever know... I know I could have grabbed one of his feet... Unreal memory that hooked me even deeper to turkey hunting

Had 8 hens come in from behind me headed to a gobbler. They walked 3 feet past my left side. They never knew me and my son were there till he fired off and killed a jake that came in.

I had several gobblers and hens less than 10 feet. I've had a bobcat at arms reach before.

I was working a bird for a friend several years ago,and I set him out in front about 30 yards of me,and I set up in some big limestone boulders on the side of a hill, and after a few calls a hen comes charging in there, passes my buddy, and jumps up on the boulders hanging over my head. Her feet was inches from the top of my head.

I would rather be turkey hunting

I've had birds within 10 feet a couple times, all hens the best I remember though. When a gobbler crosses the 40 yard line I look for a place to lay him to rest.

I shot one at 8 steps last year. Came down a field edge and there was a shooting house between us so it was the first shot I had.

I had one that actually ticked the top of my boot going to fight another gobbler. Ended up being a real throw down. Hens standing around watching and cackling and the 2 gobblers rolling down a hill with their necks all twisted up. That is one of the top 5 things I wish I had a video of in my hunting experiences. They were at about 15 yards when the fight started.

I killed a Wilcox Co gobbler at maybe six feet, shot a hole in his neck with skin showing good on both sides of the hole. Shot it with David Gastons Heavy Duck Model 12 3" gun and WW(red)XX6s....

I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

I've had hens walk so close I could hit them with my gun. Gobblers, not so much.

Killed one at 5 yards a few years ago...had a group of 8 hens come within 3 feet of me last year...the one bringing up the rear finally spotted me...8 sets of wings that close makes a lot of wind

I once flirted with danger...but then danger got clingy.
