since I got to watch one flop, but I made it happen this morning!! I started out at the front of our lease and heard this a turkey get started up at 0615. He was about a half mile by road, but I knew pretty much where he was, so about the third he gobbled, I struck a trot. He gobbled 10+ times on my way to him and let me know right where he was. There was a logging road that runs right to the ridge he was on, so I hit it and climbed the ridge. When I got close to the top I hit the brakes and started crawling to the very top. There is a little swag that separated me and him. While creepy crawling up a turkey gobbled that almost blew my hat off and sounded a little to the left of where he was, but I wasn't sure that it wasn't him and maybe he turned on the limb. He's only about 125 from me at this point. I get set up and give him a tree call, and got nothing but silence. He answered everything but me! After that I just gave him the silent treatment other than a fly down with a wing and scratching in the leaves. He didn't gobble at that either. Finally at 0710 he flew down angling toward me, so I get my gun up thinking he'll be here in a second. A few minutes roll by and I hear a turkey drum, LOUD! I'm looking for him, but can't see him, mainly because he's straight behind me! I'm guessing it's the turkey I thought was a different bird?? Anyway, of course he comes up on my right at about 25 yards, which is a problem considering I'm right handed and my gun is pointed dead to my left. Well, he gets to my 3 o'clock and walks behind a big pine and I flip my gun as fast as I can. He sees me or something he don't like and runs about 20 before I can get on him. He made a bad mistake and stopped. So I lean forward (shooting left handed), put it on his head and fire. He flops a time or two and pitches up on a limb about 20 feet off the ground. He's all wobbly sitting up there, but I put it on his back and shoot again. He fell dead as a hammer thank goodness! The first shot was around 40-45 yards. I stepped it off to where he was laying and it was 60 steps! Little ol 20ga. did good! He weighed 19.8 lbs with a 9 1/2 in beard and 1 inch spurs. It felt good to bust one's noggin!
This is Aldeer! The place people come to vent their frustrations and completely change their stance a few minutes later...

I practiced some off hand shooting this morning, but no turkey. Congrats.
