ok im having problems with my mouth calls, the tape gets to where it wont stick to the frame and it makes it sound different. i took a tip from my buddy to get a small sponge and put some listerine on it and stick it in the box with the call to keep the reeds moist so i dont have to pull them apart. that works good but i cant stand the tape not being attached to the frame, lately this has happened to a tom teaser and a woodhaven but it happened to other calls before i used the listerine too. what can i do to keep this from happening? does this happen to anyone else?
Yeah c’mon. Daniel White

I don't think there is anything you can do. It sounds like you got a few calls with bad tape. I know last year there were some issues with tape being bad and not sticking.

Don't store your calls wet. I've never had one come apart that was stored dry. I don't leave my calls in the truck overnight, either. If I use a call one day, it'll be ready to go the next day without pulling apart the reeds.

Don't try to glue them, you will get it on the reeds and that is all she wrote. Send them to me WITHOUT the tape on them and I will retape them all for you with some good stuff. If it doesn't stick then your mouth is just corrosive! I can build you some to match the ones you like while I am at it too. You do NOT want your calls to stay wet, that is just a breeding ground for bacteria, mold, etc.... If you are going to do anything just rinse and let dry.

yeah i bought that woodhaven yesterday and havent even hunted with it yet, just practiced a little last night and tonight, i talked to them and they are sending me a new one though. yek i might send them to you. i need you to pm me your addy again though. i had a flextone do it to me last year, the guy at woodhaven said he has heard of a few that the tape came off of this year but it wasnt a widespread occurrence that he knew of. seems where they all start coming off is the bottom side on the back of the frame where the excess latex is tucked.

I'll pm my info to you. If mine ever come off it is usually on the sides first. If they are getting that loose on you something is up.

I keep mine in a pork rind jar. Fill it just over the calls with water then about half that much scope. I rinse them off & freeze them every night. If you freeze them they will stay together a long time but if they get hot very long its over. Im still useing calls from last year.

I've been using mouth calls for almost 30 years and I've never soaked one in anything! Just rinse them off with water, put them back in my plastic call case and stick them in the freezer when I get in from hunting. I take them out in the morning and they are good to go. Most every callmaker got some of the bad tape last year. I got some black tape that was terrible. I don't know if the listerine may react with the glue on the tape or not but that stuff is pretty STRONG. I haven't had one come loose since I started buying the tape from Lyle at Houndstooth Game Calls. If you need some good tape, I will send you some to try. It's really easy to put on and you can cut the tape to fit your mouth.
