This is a pic of my Buddy's dog that was bit 3 times by a water moccasin in the face, neck, and leg. So far he is hanging in there. He will walk around a little bit and eat out of your hand if you feed him on the side of the face opposite the bite. It hasn't been 24 hours yet but hoping he makes it. The only thing between the snake and his 2 year old son was this puppy he took in a few months ago. The dog grabbed the snake and that's when he was struck 3 times. He took him to the vet today and the vet pumped him full of antibiotics and cortisone. Anyone on here with a snake bit pet experience that has any advice on how to help the dog would be greatly appreciated.

Deer, about the only thing he can do is just what he did, take him to the vet to get some meds and then its just a waiting game. Generally if the pup is doing some better in appx 3 days is a good sign. Glad the child didnt get struck and best of luck to the pup.

I had 2 dogs bit by snakes.First one was bit on the nose by a 4ft timber rattler.Vet kept him for 3 days.2nd one was bit by a smaller ground rattler.I didnt do chit with her and she was just fine. When my male got bit by the big rattler it was almost immediate that he started going down.I was opening the door hollering at him to get outta the pen when the snake got him. When he come outta the pen he was already slowing way down and starting to get sick.

My beagle was bitten by a copperhead on the nose. She swoll up. We took her to the vet, they basically treated the swelling. She lived and was just fine.

I hope the dog makes it and thank God the child wasn't bit by that dang snake.

My Grandaddy had dogs getting bit by rattlesnakes all the time when I was a kid. He always fed them biscuits with bacon grease poured over them. I don't remember him losing a dog though he may have. But, a hog won't die from a snake bite due to the fat absorbing the venom so there may be a connection with the bacon grease.

I have had a bunch of rabbit dogs bit. We give them a little gatorade to help keep them hydrated and generally fed them chicken broth and just tried to keep them from getting hot. Never took them to the vet and havent had one not make it yet.

My grandad used to ducttape fatback to the bite.He never lost a hound.Although sometimes he had to muzzle the hound to keep him from chewing the fatback.

Hope the little feller makes. That pup is definitely a keeper. My son's dog has warned us of snakes several times. When she finds them she will run to you and back to the snake, stopping just out of striking distance. She'll keep running back and forth as long as you're headed towards the snake. She did it with me last Friday when I went to put the garbage cart out at the road. Turned out to be a huge chicken snake. He got a free pass. The first time she done it was with my son. He was going out for a run one morning and it turned out to be a big timber rattler. It had 14 rattles.

The dog's name is Emma and she's spoiled rotten. grin

Some old coon hunters used to tell me a gas soaked rag will draw out venom. If you can get there quickly.

Life is a journey. Make sure and bring plenty of Beer.

My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

Grandads coon dogs got bit all the time, none of them died from it, big dogs though. Hope the little fella makes it, he would be eating steak every night if he were mine for keeping the kid safe.

I have an uncle in south Ga that runs a rabbit pen. He generally loses one beagle a year to the diamond backs that find their way into the pen. The pen is 40 acres and has chicken wire all the way around the bottom section of hog wire. He says the beagles are dead before they get on the road.

My mom has a basset hound that got bit twice on the face by a cotton mouth. One bite was behind one of her ears and the other on the jaw. She swelled up real big and she didn't realize it was a snake bite until all the hair fell off around the bight marks and this horrible smelling liquid started ozzing out. She was absolutely fine in a couple of days. She was under a year old when this happened. Found out it was a cotton mouth because she took her to the vet two days later.

My Terrier got bit on the nose a couple of years ago and I gave her Benadryl and layed with her in the floor all night to try and comfort her. It was just a scrape on her nose and not a puncture bite. She was fine in a couple of days but she didn't get a lot of venom.

Thanks for all the replies and kind words. Not sure what kind of dog it is. Someone dropped it off out in the pasture and it wound up at his house. He took it in a couple months ago and it will no doubt be his best buddy now. Its been a little over 24 hours since it happened and he is eating a little and drinking a lot so I think that's a good sign. You can tell he's in a lot of pain but hoping for the best. The vet said he would probably be dead already had it been a rattler because he's so small. He doesn't seem to be getting any worse so maybe he can start getting back to normal in a couple of days.
