Got close to a bird I've been trying to get all season but cut off by hens cause this joker don't fly down til he sees the real deal. This was that morning so I went to where I had camera pics of him in the afternoon and is with hens. That afternoon the hens show but he's not with them and about an hour after they left he gets dead even to where I'm at but up the hill out of sight and gobbles. I give him only a few clucks to say come on but he does not seem to respond to a call. He kept on his path and only heard him one other time way off. I don't think he was with hens cause the day before saw him cross the road going to the same area about 6pm by himself. any ideas on how to get him would be great not sure what to do at this point cause my experience in the past they come in running if alone.

Shoot him off the roost.

Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

I'd go back to where he's hanging out. Sooner or later, he'll show up.

Gobble at him??
Decoys in the road where he crosses in the afternoon??
Scratch in the leaves instead of calling , flydown with your hat??

Throw every trick you got at him

Maybe try setting up a gobbler or jake decoy with a hen decoy when you get close to his roosting area and maybe he'll come looking for a fight. Or try to get a child in a hen costume and walk under his roosting tree. That'll be the "real deal" smile

Thanks for the info. Had hen decoy out the first day of the season and had him coming and he saw it and ran like he was on fire. might try to gobble at him next time.

Sounds like you know a little bit about his daily activities, use them. Your probably not going to kill kill in the morning and calling. Just get where you know he frequents.

Its not as fun but do it on days you don't here much.

Do you want to hear him gobble, or do you want to kill him.

Try fanning him if you can get close enough where he can see it.

He may just likely run straight to you tomorrow, just hunt him like you would any other. He is only a turkey. If he is roosting in the same area each night go in there and flush him off the roost. If he is in a new area at daylight he will likely act like a completely different turkey. Seems to me if a tough turkey moves from his comfort area he instantly gets stupid

Sounds like you have a good idea about his daily habits. Keep hunting his safe areas. He'll get too close and then it will be time for you to put him down. Good luck.

I came, I saw, so I killed them all......Vern

I've killed a few like that just by scratching in the leaves. It might fire him up to come check you out. If you've called to him a bunch I would lay off that tactic.

It might not be the same turkey. Afterall where i hunt, more than one gobbler roosts in the same area. It's not like their wearing nametags. It probably is, but it might not be. Mount your hen decoy to a remote control car and .............never mind. Try and use an owl hoot before daylight to pinpoint him and get in really tight on him, before daylight. When the hens come in, he should pitch straight down to them, but he'll probably pitch down the ridge about 100 yards away, where you were setup last time.LOL

I'm trying this tomorrow on one that's doing the same crap. I have a really good feeling about using this. Have you had success with this method?

Some do, some don't....what's it gonna be?

Never tried the fan method but decoy I ain't trying again. I got close enough to see him on the roost but got to light to move closer. Next time if I get that chance again I will take my chances and crawl. Nothing to lose the way I see it plus not gonna call to him just scratch in leaves or gobble to him or just catch him somewhere on his route. I'm sure it's the same one cause he acts the same every time and in the same area. Thanks for the feedback everyone.
