This is going to be my first year bow hunting and I've seen on here where a lot of you guys have had success grunting during bow season. I've grunted here and there during the rut mostly with no luck. I'd like to know some advise on how, when, and in what situation to grunt during bow season and how it differs from the rest of the season. Thanks guys!

I think most of em call in does with a fawn bleat during bow season..although a lil grunt might get a curious buck in.I dont do anything but sit back, relax and be quite during bow season.

I grunt at bucks that I see and need them to come closer for a shot. I have better luck during bow season than during the rut.

Same here.... Only time I've had them work was during bow season...

I use a fawn bleat can thing. I've had does, bucks, coyotes and hound dogs come check it out, but be aware they are "looking" when they come in.

I have called in a lot of deer with a grunt call but have never had any success with rattling. I dont do very much blind calling but I have called in a few that way. Most of the deer I've called in were deer that I saw first. I start off with a soft grunt and get louder until I know that he has heard it. Once he hears me I remain quiet until he makes the next move. If he comes I don't make another sound. If he continues the way he was going I grunt again. Usually takes 2or 3 times of this and he will come more times than not. It is kinda like you walking down the street and someone says HEY. You look around and see noone so you start back walking and they do it again. Most people will turn around and come back looking for who is doing it. Deer are the same way. It works better when the deer can't see very far because of thick brush or something blocking his view in your direction.

I actually rattled up a small buck this year (on public land no less). It will work in Alabama you've just got to the get the wind and terrain right to do it I think. But I agree calling to a deer you can see works much better than blind calling.

I usually don't grunt at one unless I see him and he isn't coming my way, especially during bow season. In bow season I'm almost always sitting on a food source just sitting and waiting quietly.
