First of all it is public land and if you work you help pay for the maintenance of the land and everyone should be able to use it. I do think there should be restrictions on what can be on the land (4 wheeler's and dirt bikes) Most of it should be vehicle free. A then there are things on the land that the general pulic can't use without helping pay a little extra, such as campgrounds, showers and shooting ranges. Now shouldn't you have to pay a few bucks to maintain the well being of wildlife so they can be harvested.
I say we should. JMO

Define joy riding. Just make any destructive behavior illegal but do not give more money to the system.

The system is a cancer that must charge more, restrict more, enforce more, hire more, and grow more to sustain it'self. Money is the food it needs to grow.

instead of fighting for a new fee why not fight to end the fee you pay to hunt/fish .

always ok to put a tax on some body else i guess , why we have so damn many .

Yes they should have to pay to use the property also. Maybe with a little more money they could enforce the rules. Wife and I were on the WMA over by Perdido River a couple weeks ago and a bunch of 4 wheelers were riding all over the place looked like you were at some sort of mud bog races. The rules plainly state no 4 wheelers but apparently nobody enforces it.

This has become more of a "I support Democrats" thread than anything else..... Tax...tax...tax... Fees...fees..fees... May as well throw a nonuser fee in there to help pay for the LEO's to enforce.....put up more gates...put more fences up to keep the two wheelers out... Make they sure they use reinforced steel fences too....so a pair of snips won't cut the barb wire.... Since the money will be so well spent....I'm sure the new influx of funds will be put to good use and completely stop all of the joyriders...... Now that I think about.... Yes...I'm for it..... smile

WMA= Wildlife Management Area. It's not the same as a state park or national forest. They could write a hundred tickets for not having the signed map I'm sure.

Aren't some if not most of the WMAs still privately held land that is leased to the state? It would be a shame if some of these leases aren't renewed due to destruction of property. I'd vote yes.

Why do you need a fee to prevent destruction? Just close it to rec vehicles.

Here's another angle, when FW aka "the State", buys property it is taken off the tax rolls and no property taxes are paid. So Dog votes.......pay up boys and girls.

This got off topic, I am still interested in who would or wouldn't support it.

There are a lot of factors that go in to decisions on WMA management and where/how funds are used and that is a different discussion than the one posed.

It doesn't need to be closed to rec vehicles. I enjoy riding and camping on the WMA. It's public land. It should be open to legal outdoor activities. Whoever, if someone is going to use it, purchase a permit like everyone else.

It's not a TAX! It's a permit to use the land.

Yes. Why should one activity on public land require a permit but another doesn't? Whether or not anyone should pay is a separate discussion. Anyone that doesn't want to pay the same as hunters, just wants to keep on enjoying the public land access that us hunters provide without paying one dime of their own money.

Really... So my hard earned tax money that's being spent on THIS doesn't count...

I'm a hunter...but hunters aren't the only ones "providing the land" If it wasn't for the tax money being spent to purchase and acquire these lands...public hunters would be out of luck altogether....
