I can tell ya, a bunch of 2 and 3 YO, 100" 8 pointers are going to die, each year.

Correct, and with no does to put in the cooler, they'll probaaly shoot 3 a piece.

I bet they're already doing it.

Yep, all the 8 pt rule will do is make them feel better about it.

I am opposed to turning all hunting into trophy management in general. Some people hunt for the meat and there is nothing wrong with that. In fact I consider that a more legitimate reason for hunting than bragging about a set of horns. If you want practice trophy management practices on your land then great. But don't try to use the law to force it on everyone.

Besides, point rules like this are the worst way to manage a herd anyway. Sure it might save a few spikes and fork horns but the 2 year old basket racked 8 points will still be slaughtered. And the another problem with a 8 point rule from a management standpoint is what about bucks that will never be anything but a 6 or 7 point? You are awarding these bucks a lifetime immunity from being legally killed. Are those the bucks you want out there spreading their genetics?

Got to this comment on first page and haven't read anymore.. No need to. This sums it up right here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is what I would say.

Plus everyone is free to set their own property or club rules already. I like where we are at with the regs on buck limits and see no need to tamper with it.

I say no for many of the reasons listed already but what about this scenario...

Generally my mind is made up whether or not I will kill a buck at first glance, I only bow hunt so I would probably get a chance to make sure he has 8 points before I shoot. But what about a rifle hunter that shoots a mature buck chasing a doe only to get to him and realize he's a 7 point? I'd hate to think I would get a ticket for shooting a mature 7 or 6.

True... The same goes for the clubs with 6pt or better rules. I saw lots of young 6pts drug into camp. If I move back home and lease land. I'll let guys shoot whatever and once they shoot the limit, they done, Less hunters on the property during the rut grin
