God allows us the complete freedom to live our lives in any manner we choose.
God knew that when he gave us free will, he granted “us” the ability to choose to be obedient or disobedient. He wants us to serve him freely, because we “want” to serve and honor him, not because we “have” to serve him. God also knows that we are quick to take credit for things, and therefore it is a struggle for us to keep our pride out of the way. We must remember that “He” saved “Us” and that our salvation is a gift, that we cannot earn, no matter how many good things we do or accomplish. After all, if we earned our salvation, we would have a tendency to keep score with others, and become prideful of our accomplishment.
“For it is by grace that you have been saved, through faith and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God, not by works so that no man can boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9

Years ago I came to understand this and started calling it my marionette theory ... You know what marionette is, one of those puppets with strings that make it do stuff. God created us to love Him. The way I see it, God gave us complete freedom to decide/chose our paths because if we didn't have free will we would be nothing more than a marionette, praising him only because he pulled our strings and made us praise him ... that would have no real meaning and would not be real love in the first place.
I don't want to pass quietly into the night. I want to slide in sideways kickin and screamin Life really is awesome ... Soak it up while you can ...

Good post.
Yet in that freedom He allows, He also has written on our hearts His virtues, His attributes, and His character--the inherent knowing of what is good and right vs. what is bad and wrong. He also employs the Holy Spirit in the believer's heart to correct, rebuke, lead and guide us down His paths...not our own paths.
We may have the ability to be obedient or disobedient, but God doesn't let any of us wander about aimlessly--He is there and calling, actively involved in our lives--until we reject Him and He gives us up to our own desires.
"The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever." Isaiah 40:8
"Neither the wisest constitution nor the wisest laws will secure the liberty and happiness of a people whose manners are universally corrupt. Samuel Adams

Judging even ourselves based on Grace rather than our good works or lack of sin, or obedience is a concept that many Christians have trouble with.
I recently had another preacher who wanted to argue with me in the middle of teaching a class. His position was that Christians aren't forgiven of sin unless they repent of that sin.
While I agree that we need to repent of sin, I do not rely on my ability to remember and name every one of my sins in order to be forgiven. I was forgiven of every sin when I made Jesus the Lord of my Life.It was then that I repented. As long as I keep Jesus as king he will tell me anything I need to change or correct. In so doing I will rely on his Grace rather than my ability to properly repent.
We seem to want to make everything dependent on how well we can do. In this we move away from Grace. Grace relies on God's love toward us. When we are truly wrapped up in Grace, our desire is not to sin and see how much God can forgive us, our desire is to please God because of all he has done for us.

I wish every lost soul that ever ventures onto AlDeer would read all of the above posts. They are the truth and can lead a lost soul to eternal life and freedoms in this mixed up world that they have no understanding of until experienced first hand.
