Need recommendations. Wanting to get new knife sharpener. Leaning toward natural whetstones. Which kind and brand do you like to use?

I bought an Arkansas stone at Academy. I also bought some honing oil for it. I think the oil helps a lot.

If you're referring to my post sure. The top of your window is rounded. It works extremely well for sharpening. Just like on any other sharpener get your angle right. I ain't saw the need in buying a sharpener on count of this. Try it, it works.

Use the top edge of the glass.

I use the bottom of an old ceramic coffee mug to keep my kitchen knives sharp. Never heard of the window trick...pretty cool.

Daggum, You learn something new every day. I'll have to give the window sharpener a try.

The window works like a ceramic rod, as long as you don't let your knife get dull it is easy to touch it up. You can also strop it on heavier pants like carhartts. As far as a coarser sharperner I like the dmt diamond sharpeners.

It's hard to sit in your living room and sharpen your knife on a truck window, though. laugh It's great for showing someone a new trick, but not practical for me.

How thick/sturdy would you say those blades are Fur? Have you tried them yet and are the replacement blades as nearly as expensive as a new knife?

I have been very pleased with it. The whole blade is supported by a blade holder of sorts. The blade sides down inside the holder. If you look at the picture the black part of the blade is the holder. It holds both sides of the replacement blades. This is not the same as the knives that hold the scapel blades.

Thanks. I'll check them out. I don't really like the scalpel blade designed ones. I haven't tried either but I am kicking the idea around because I have like 7 or 8 skinning knives that I just cant sharpen myself to my satisfaction. There is a knack to doing it right. I lack that knack.

Been using a Lanksy on all my knives the last 5-6 years and love it. I can't sharpen one on a stone to save my life...

Just don't show your buddies how sharp your knives are from the Lansky. They'll want you to sharpen theirs too.

I got a WorkSharp off of Dustin's advice. Best and easiest sharpener I have ever used. I took a knife I didn't think could be sharpened and it will shave now.
