I haven't had a hard time seeing deer yet. I've been 15 total hunts, and seen 77 deer.
If I were some of you I'd start looking for somewhere else to hunt.

We have been seeing deer pretty regularly. I average around 10 per weekend ....this past weekend I saw 8 my wife saw 10 and my little girl saw 11. But we don't shoot everything we see either.
Let them walk ...and grow them big

However the weather and the moon is playing a big factor because the deer don't have to move much to eat and stay warm....find a good water source during this time and the deer will show up

If I were some of you I'd start looking for somewhere else to hunt. How many people have to post about declining deer numbers on here before you admit Alabama needs to reduce doe killing?

It was reduced, and some areas did NOT need it to be reduced. Just like the argument from the ones who claim that blanket regulations and liberal doe days led to a decline in some areas. The same could be said for those of us who need it and now can't apply it. I've killed 9 deer this year, and need to kill that many more. We cut back on the doe killing about three years ago. We were killing 1 doe per 50-60 acres. We backed off to a doe per 100-120. Our average body weights on all age classes are beginning to drop, fawn recruitment is decreasing, and food plots are eaten slap to bear ground. I'm not alone. That's happening in a lot of areas. The deer processors I have talked to said they are just as busy as any other year, and one says he's seeing more deer, and they are looking poorer than ever. That is NOT a sign of a declining and suffering herd. It is not the state's fault. Sure we take hunter observations, feedback, and opinions seriously, but we have to apply what the data shows us too. We have to walk a fine line between public desires and science. They have to mesh together the best way they can to benefit the user groups and the resource. Deer are not declining everywhere. Sure, they are down in some areas, but they're up in others.

One other thing. I know this isn't the case everywhere, on all properties, but it is on some. Pressure is the leading cause of nocturnal deer and not seeing them where you hunt. I hunt a property near a large club. We lease some of the same property they do. Right now we are seeing plenty of deer in certain habitat types, but not others. If I only based my deer sighting activity on that property I would think deer don't exist. They were there in early bow season. Now the pressure has changed, and food sources have changed, and so have the deer.

And people like you could talk to your neighbors, form a cooperative, get on DMP, and get a biologist to assist meeting your goals. If you're not talking to people you hunt with and close to then you need to be. At this time in history people are more skeptical of ALL government agencies than they have been in recent times, and are pushing for fewer government restrictions, regulations, and giving the people more liberty to manage the way they want to. Which is it? What do people really want? I think AL has done a great job at giving people hunting freedoms and privileges that most other states don't give their residents. If deer are declining in your area that is not justification for a statewide regulation change. That requires local change, which is your responsibility.

There is no reason for personal attacks. I don't attack anyone on here. I can't stand politicians. Not sure why you had to go there. Like I said, contact your local biologist. Or if you think you know better than the politicians who work for state continue what you're doing. I'm trying to offer you help by getting in touch with someone.

Sure, they are down in some areas, but they're up in others. I didn't realize low fawn recruitment could be due to overpopulation. Learn something new every day. It does make sense though. We've been seeing hooves sloughing, some stories of dead deer in the creeks this past fall, mainly bucks. Had a friend call me this past fall about a BIG buck floating in the creek.

I agree with Matt,I have property that I hunt exclusive,and have not shot a doe in 3 years because I was seeing a decline in the numbers.I made this decision by my own observation,and the state was still allowing 2 does a day.If you don't need does killed on your property,then simply don't shoot them no matter what the limit is.....problem solved.
