I use to deer hunt when my grandpa was alive, but he had a qweurky way of going about it. He stalked his deer. Never used a blind/stand/etc. So I'm kind of lost on getting back in it. I have 83 acres of family land in the Cullman area, but it hasn't been hunted in over 40 years (wife's family). So I don't know whether there are deer on the property or not. I assume it's too late to start now, so could some of you give me some tips/knowledge on how/when to get started? Thanks! And my apologies for the long post.

Go sit on a log tomorrow. If it hasn't been hunted in that long, deer are probably there. Welcom btw!

Corn and a trail cam to see if you have any deer worth hunting. Then move out of site and over 100 yards and good luck. Easy, huh guys?

Really?

The first thing I would do is walk the entire property. Make sure you know where the boundary lines are located.

Me and Granpa your would have got along just fine. It's all about the wind direction.

My father in law has already shown me the property lines. The place has two fields that use to be cow pasture. An acre pond, numerous springs, and creeks. Briar thickets, hardwoods, and pine thickets.

Get someone to walk the property with you, you will need help removing all the stands you will find. Believe me, someone has been hunting the land.

Sounds like the property has everything a deer could want. Like said above, look at a map and the wind direction and go find a log or blow down to sit in. Its not to late, the season isn't over yet.

Google The address and look at the property and the adjacent land. Look for funnel areas and any food source, hunt in the middle.
Put out a mineral lick and a camera now and at the end of the season corn to see what you have.
Good luck and enjoy what your Grandpa left you!

A lot of cullman county land will not have many if any deer. If it's around the hanceville, Jones chapel dodge city areas it may have a better population of deer. I am sure there are others with a good population that I didn't mention. Most of cullman county probably has deer but your property may or nay not have any using it. Where I live we are just now getting a huntable population of deer but they have came on strong the last few years. If you can pm me what community it is close to I might be able to give you some details of what I have heard about the area.

PM sent. There are deer in the area. I've seen tracks, and a family member who lives close by has shown me pictures that were recently taken from her front porch.

Can anyone in the Cullman area tell me whether or not I have already missed the rut?

Haha... well I'll probably be looking for someone who knows what is needed to be planted, and such. I have no experience in managing food plots, and other secondary feeding stations.

Can someone post an email address for me to send a pic to? I'm thinking this is a scrape area, but I'm not 100% sure.
