Awesome stories! If you don't mind tell us the story of spike.
The secret to a long marriage is to keep on dating, just as you did before marriage. We have "date night" once a week. Hers is Saturday, mine is Thursday.
The only time a married woman gives those is if your not married to them!

Troy,
As always, I have enjoyed reading your stories. You have certainly lived and experienced an "eventful" life.
Taz was a great dog and I'm sure you miss her to this day.
Thanks so much for sharing your stories.

Truly great stuff. Thanks for sharing.
The left lane is for the the purpose of moving the flow of traffic forward regardless of the speed limit. If your impeding the flow of traffic get your ass in the right lane. It's really that simple...

one thing I didn't touch on last night was that Taz was a GREAT blood trailing dog for wounded deer. She tracked and recovered every deer I put her on over the years, including one that was shot in the FOOT. She bayed it twice, finally holding it long enough for us to sneak up and finish the deer off. I shot this deer at 250 yards on my place at Leeds. I put Taz on it and she ran it maybe 200 yards and bayed it. When I got there Taz ran up and bit its nose!!! and the buck threw her 20 feet. I shot it again with no sign of it being hit. Taz once again closed and got tossed. Worried for her I closed in and finished it. A damn fine old warrior of a buck. 225# and 7.5 years old.

Brad Gavins is Conservation Officer in Crenshaw County. He uses a beagle named Holyfield to lead him from vehicle to hunters on their stand. The dog got his name from a big notch in one ear. Brad and Holyfield make a good team.

Troy why did you not breed her and get some puppies? With a fine dog like that seems like people (other GW) would have "sold the house" for a awesome dog with TAZ's blood line. Great stories.
I love the rut. The woods are like a bunch of roided up meatheads fighting over a girl.

I got short sighted stupid and had he spayed when she was young, so that I could have a better working dog without having to worry with her being in heat. It was stupid of me then. i just wish I had a couple of pups off of her today. It was real funny, her mother was bat chitt, sprayed roach crazy. I mean hyper as hail, and bite you in a second. Her dad was a great dog, temperment like Taz, very laid back and calm, esp for a Mal. Mom, Jeta, just threw great puppies when bred to Barry. Owner ended up killing Jeta when she got loose and killed all but one of his Terrier puppies, she was trying to kill the last when he shot her dead. Like I said ..crazy.

Good stories Troy, appreciate you sharing them.
There is a special bond between a working dog and their handler. I worked K-9 for a few years in Montgomery, and always said that my Dutch Shepard was the best partner I ever had. Your dog always had your back and would do anything for you, as long as you took care of them.
My old partner died in 2004 and I still miss him to this day. Thanks for bringing back memories. you are 99% correct. You don't even have to come close to 100% taking care of them for them to "have yer back". Unconditional love from the dog for sure. Taz slept on my bed or on her bed on the floor in the bedroom....

WE used to throw a huge party in Feb every year at my house. My birthday is Feb 7 so it was a combo birthday party and "we survived deer season" party. Started out mostly GWs and family, later expanded to a LOT of folks, sometimes as many as 50.
On party day I was in the kitchen working on food and I looked out the window to see Taz dragging my four year old nephew across the yard at a pretty good clip. She had him by the shirt collar!!!!!! WTH??? I flew out the back door and yelled at Taz to heel. She took a pretty good cussing. I checked Mark out and his shirt was torn up, but there were no marks on his skin. I put Taz in the bedroom...
Hour er so later I look out the window and see one of the kids holding Taz by the collar and Mark running across the yard. Kid let the collar go and Taz hammered little Mark again. Holysmokinbatman!!! I raced out the door and grabbed Mark...not one single scratch on his skin but that shirt was tatters.
I put Taz back up and whipped 3 er 4 of those kids involved. Turns out they were sicking Taz on Mark as he ran...fun and games. I'm just glad it was Taz and not some other dog. Taz knew better, and was good enough, not to touch his skin, only clothes. Marks mom was NOT amused when she came to get him later....

I am not much of a dog person, but I could deal with a well mannered dog like her.

Taz was also a pretty good bay dog for hog hunting. I used her some when bowhunting as I could easily control her after I shot. The Weimie not so much.... that crazy Weimie grabbed that pig and held it like a catch dog, funny as heck. funny side note. that damn Weimie decided one ay he wanted to be a drug dog when I was working Taz. So I trained him and used him a lot when searching LOTS of trucks such as at a school with the SO. Mostly outside because he pissed on the wall at a Shelby Co school one day!!!! He also decided to be a bite dog....can you say BITE??? He bit like a vise and then would sling yer butt all over the place, feet off the ground. You did NOT mess with my wife when Max was around.
