Long story short, I ran into a guy yesterday that hunts Lowndes a lot and kills some good deer there. He was telling me about hunting Ohio and the deer he has taken there... Got me interested.. Anyone got an information? I don't remember where he said he hunted I was tired... I should have wrote it down and got his name and number...

Yup, I got a friend that has a lake house up there, only reason we went there. 1026 miles one way, drove it straight, got up there hunted monday, snow came in on tuesaday, and 3 feet fell by Wed. morning, I told my dad and Steve Bryant that I was going to Alabama, if they wanted in to get their azz in gear. It was all flat corn land, I got lost snow came in, I had lost my compass, 3 inches in a hour. low visibility, luckily ran into a guy to point me back to the right way..

I've got a buddy with a place near Logan, Ohio. Went up there a few years ago and lost the biggest buck of my life. An easy 170class. Met some guys in town one night while eating and they were hunting Wayne National Forest and had a big buck they had taken that morning. They said they cone there every year and always have a chance at a b&c. Its about an 11-14 hr ride from west Alabama. But tags are like 125 over the counter and a license is like 26 bucks. So for 150.00 you can hunt it.
It isn't necessary to see a good tackle...you can hear it.

For public land SE Ohio...Look into Gallia and surrounding counties...Cooper Hollow and the Wayne National hold some great deer. That seems to be what everyone is saying! Thank you for the info!

I once hunted with some guys in Athens, OH and we had to drive through part of the Wayne NF to get there. I can easily believe it holds big deer. I'd be interested in going back but Id carefully research places to stay and accommodations. There's not much in my that area and what little there is looks pretty rough.

Be aware that Ohio has 1 week of gun season & about half the state will be wearing orange and shooting anything that moves. I hunted in Wayne National Forest down near Logan for several years & saw some mighty good deer, but also saw the bad ugly side of people that can come out when a deer is involved. I had more than one episode where if the idot had been a decent shot I probably wouldn't have survived!

I'd love to make a trip up ther for about a week if I could every get the time to go up there. Ohio is archery and slug gun on right? No rifles allowed? I haven't looked that far into it to know 100% but I don't hunt with one of them point n kills.. All about flingin them arras! Beware of gun season and the orange army I love it up there early to mid November! I would want to be there min November if I go. I have hunted Lowndes wma, LBL, Ft Campbell Ky, two years in a row now and have not had anyone walk in on me yet.. Wait, maybe that means my spots suck!!!!! LOL I once hunted with some guys in Athens, OH and we had to drive through part of the Wayne NF to get there. I can easily believe it holds big deer. Agree with wardaddy, and BobF, hunt the bow season in the southeast corner, Copper Hollow, Wayne is execellent but you need more than a few days to pattern the deer. Beware of a few locals, they do not like out of state tags, I have had notes left on vehicle to go back to Virginia, not wanted here. Never stopped me, nothing a colt 45 couldn't handle. On the other hand, I have meet some great people in Ohio who would help a person out anytime. Actually hunted Wayne next to some private land and the land owner gave me permission to hunt his property while I was there. I have never taken any big bucks but seen many out of bow range. I have taken several bucks, just not wall hangers.

I go every year and hunt public land in Adams and Scioto county. Theres the Shawnee National Forest in Scioto county and Tranquility Preserve in Adams. There's also Brush Creek Management Area that covers several counties. No shortage of public land in south central Ohio. We kill deer every trip and have seen some absolute monsters but none would get in bow range. The license and tags (1 either sex and 1 doe) was $164 this year. Super cheap for out of state. I would avoid the one week shotgun season like the plague. Anytime in November is really good up there. thanks for the info!
