Well I have had that moment that I have heard about and read about on here and other places. My son killed his first deer on Sunday. My son is 8 years old and I have taken him a few times but I only take him when he asks to go. This year he has gotten serious about it so we have gone a few more times this year. I have let him shoot my Remington 700 22-250 a few tomes and he is pretty good with it. So on to the story. I don't get him up real early so 0630 I wake him up get him dressed and we head to Jack's in Blountsville for pancakes for him and Biscuit and grave for me (we do this every hunt) and we get set up a little before 0800. We got to a spot looking down into a creek bottom. I have shot a doe down there and know deer use it. We sit on the ground and he sits in my lap to shoot. I have a harris bi-pod on the gun so it works real good like that. About 0830 he asks if he can use the horns. I say sure. He tickles them a little bit and I tell him do it a little harder and then I will grunt a little bit when he is done. So, he does it and I grunt 6 or 7 times and set it down and look at my phone for a min. I look up and see a buck working in with its nose down. I have never been that excited to see a deer in my life. I grab him get him in my lap and pull the gun over and set it up and the deer stops.. I am freaking out because I think we are busted.. I can't find the deer so I ask Drake if he sees him and says yes dad he is right there! He points him out I see the deer and get the gun pointed at him and tell Drake to take aim. I ask if he sees him and he says yes, I ask are you ready to shoot him, again yes I say right in the shoulder just like I told you, he says yes dad. I flip the safely off and tell him when ready squeeze. He squeezes and drops the deer in his tracks! I lose it I am screaming hugging him and he is just in shock. I tell him its a buck and a good one and he says I saw it was a buck but I don't what it is. So I say lets go get him. We start down into the bottom and its about straight down.. I think I fell like three times and he was laughing at me and I was laughing. I was so excited I couldn't stand up!! Haha But, there is nothing like that experience it is the greatest day of hunting I have had in my life. I have to thank the good lord for that day. I know he played a part in it as I have never had a deer respond to rattling there. I can not wait to get him back out! Here are a few pics.
