Had a great trip to arkie this weekend! I've hunted AR a lot before but this was my first time hunting Stuttgart in the timber. It is tough work and it takes years of knowledge and a lot of balls to hunt like that! 40mph through the timber will wake you wide up at 4am. There was 136 trucks at the launch Saturday morn, and we whacked them. 5 man limit only 2 Susie's.
Day one set up.

Harvest

Day 2 pretty much the same story, 5 man limit a little more brown this time

3 morning we killed 3 limits and it was "disappointing" haha. Had a great time with some great people, and killed the heck outta some
Mallards!

That's great man! White River refuge? I'd put my passion for duck hunting up against anyone but to hell with fighting 100 boats for a spot. Surprised there wasn't a fight at the landing with that many folks trying to get in the water.

We hunted 45 minutes from Stuttgart and I bet I didn't hear 20 shots all morning. The guys that hunted timber killed a couple of wood ducks. I hunted until 1030 and called it after we killed a pintail and a speckled belly.

I hunted Bayou Meto this past week and on Saturday morning there was 35 boats in front of us at 3:15 a.m. I bet I heard 1,200 gunshots that morning. It was my first time there and it was the circus everyone up there complains about. I will never hunt the weekends again up there.

We were on meto. 136 was just at lower. They didn't start killing them until this week. There was people every 200 yds, and a hell of a lot of high ballin, and tree top blasting. They got more and more call shy each day. Only finished 1 group day 3, but we left at 10 and part of the group stayed and killed 14 from 11-12

Man that's fun hunting in green timber, nothing like it. Looks like y'all had a good time.

Talked to buddy who's cabin looks at the Metro and he said it is ON in the woods. It's a different mind set to hunt the woods over there, but it should be on every duck hunters bucket list. Glad ya'll thumped em.

Some do, some don't....what's it gonna be?

That was my first time hunting in green timber and it was awesome. We dropped in 60 mallards first thing in the morning. It was such a pretty sight. I've kill a lot of ducks in fields but now I rather kill them in timber

That's one of the main reasons I don't hunt the metro anymore. Well I did last year, but that was tough times. I'd rather hunt numerous other places that aren't near as crowded

Nice hunts btw! Did you try any deer hunting?

No I will next year. You have to apply for a tag before September. I believe I'll try the white river vs meto though for the deer hunting

Awesome trip! There's just something about flooded woods that's different. I still love a good field hunt too. They're just different animals. Can't kill specks in the woods but there's something about wings slapping limbs that's pretty awesome too.

I suggested in the other post, go down to trusten holder for the deer. It is better than the white or the metro IMO. And it's still close enough to drive.
