Building a house and the wife and I are looking at different countertop options. Not against granite, just looking for something a little different. My concern with concrete is the durability and how porous it might be. Suggestions on other surfaces will be appreciated.

One of the cool things about concrete countertops is you can actually light them from within. Doesn't work for all kitchens but can look cool

I don't but my grandparents do. As far as being porous it's not at all to me. It has a similar feel to granite in my opinion. They love them. Probably doesn't help you much but that's about all I know about them.

When we did a remodel about 7 years ago, we went with Corian. We liked the looks and it can be repaired, unlike Granite. I also liked the fact that scratches can easily be buffed out.

Google Buddy Rhodes. I took a class a few years ago. Your tops will be one of a kind and they are maintained about like other solid surfaces.
