I am planning on buying a muzzleloader soon for this year and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations? I have been looking at the CVA wolf and a Thompson Center (the cheapest one. Thanks for any helpful suggestions!!

I've got a TC Impact and have been really pleased with it for a low cost, accurate, easy to clean hunting gun.

I Love my TC Omega. I have a Nikon BDC scope on it and I have never missed a deer.

I have a TC Encore and like it. It makes cleaning alot easier when you can remove the barrel and breech plug. I also put quick detachable mounts on it so I could take my scope off while cleaning the barrel.

Best thing I ever did was to start using Blackhorn209... tightest groups I've ever had with my Encore... best ever !! this stuff burns very clean... it eliminates alot of cleaning, you can literally blow the residue out of the barrell and it looks like glass inside... anyway thats my 2 cents
(dang maybe they should compensate me or something.. lol)

The cva wolf is hard to beat for the price, just like anything, you can spend as much as you want. I only use a muzzleloader for the week before opening weekend of rifle season, so for that reason, i wasn't about to spend the money for an expensive rifle. I think i paid like $120 for it at wal-mart.

I have an older CVA stag horn. It's as bare bones basic as they come. It has an inexpensive Bushnell 3x9. That's been 10 years and its never moved its point of impact. It shoots less than a 2" group at 100 using 295gr Power Belts and 120 grains of 777 Hodgdon.

Whole setup less than $200 and I've been very pleased.

I have a CVA Optima and it's a shooter and easy to clean as well . Consistent 2 inch groups at 300 yards with 300 grain Powerbelts and 2 pellets .

I'd take a day and go pawn shop hopping. You can likely get one for half price. As long as its not rusted down the bore and the breech isn't seized up, it should be good to go.

I bought my Impact from almost the exact same situation. Guy bought it new (scope, all accessories, bullets, powder, etc..) to get in on a special 1 week long muzzleloader hunt and ended up not going. Sold the entire package for a really good price.

You can hunt with your muzzleloader for about 3 months.
