I was wondering if any of yall work this type of 12 hours. It's the one where you always have two crews off and two crews on. Of the two crews off, one of them will be off for seven days straight and under normal conditions you wont work more than four days in a row.
Our mill is looking into trialing this shift. We currently work "southern swing". which is three shifts, seven days straight before having an off day.
Im looking to hear opinions good or bad on this 12 hour schedule. Thanks

We worked that schedule at a previous job and we loved it. You could take the 4 days before (or 4 nights after) your 7 off and ultimately have 2 weeks of vacation and only use 4 days. Plus, with the 7 days off, you have a built in vacation every month. It works out that you work 2 weekends (days one weekends, then nights the 2nd weekend), then have 2 weekends off.
At my previous employer, they gave us the week of our "milestone" birthday off (any birthday ending in 0...30, 40, 50, etc). They year I turned 30, I had the week of my milestone birthday off, my 7 days off the following week, then took vacation my 1st 4 nights back after the 7 off. I was off pretty much the whole month of June that year and only used 4 days of vacation.

We work it here at our mill,I've been on this type of shift for almost 10 years and wouldn't take a straight day mon-fri job over it,it's really nice during hunting season and during the summers when the kids are out of school,I'm on a day job for a week or two working the 2 on 2 off,3 on 2 off,2 on 3 off schedule and it's ok but I don't like it nearly as much as the other shift, those southern swings are the absolute worst shifts a man can work, they're only 8 hours but you work 7 days strait and 3 weekends a month, I'd leave my job if they ever went back to them here

We work a true 7 on, 7 off. Work 7 days, off 7, work 7 nights, off 7. Repeat. Love it. They can have the M-F daily grind crap.

If you're working a southern swing, the 7 Day Dupont may be an improvement. We work the Every Other Weekend Off 2-3-2 schedule now. We did a trial run of an 8 Day Break schedule for a year, then went to the 7 Day Dupont for a year. The 7 Day Dupont we worked had you working two weekends and off two weekends...theoretically. We had a pretty good bit of overtime when we trialed these schedules, so it was rare to get your long break. Lots of people voted to try it thinking you would get a vacation every month, but it rarely turned out that way. Some people scheduled out of town trips and had to cancel at the last minute when OT would pop up. There are short breaks in the schedule that could also end up with you working eight days in a row and if your pay period is like ours, it won't look that much better on your paycheck. In my experience, being older and working a pretty physical job, I was much more tired working that schedule compared to the 2-3-2. Again, though, compared to the southern swing, it may be better for you.

There is one job in our mill on the 2-3-2 and I'm on it now for a week or two,I worked it for six months last year and it's ok don't like it near as much as the DuPont,on the 2-3-2 shift if you have to work any OT you pretty much don't get any days off or only I day off, with any kind of shift work there will be OT to cover for folks being out, there's No way around it,our guys try not to schedule you to work on your 7 off unless there's no other choice, most get the whole 7 but if you do have to work it's usually 1-2 days,we can also give our OT away to someone else if they want it,I can promise you it will still be better than the southern swing

I worked that schedule at Shaw Ind. in Andalusia back before I quit. I liked the schedule as it gives you plenty of time off during the month. It's really nice to have 7 days off each month when compared to other shifts and work schedules.

The best shift you can work if you get your 7 day break its like a weeks vacation every month. Or you can work and make overtime when you go in on an off day. Most places that work the 7 day swing 8 hour shift turns into 16 hrs so that's all you do is work. I work 7 days swing for 18 years then finaly the 12 hr 3/4 shift love it .

I work 12 hour rotating shifts and love it. We work 14 days a month, 7 day shifts & 7 night shifts off every other weekend. Ours is days Tuesday & Wednesday, off on Thursday , nights Friday, Saturday & Sunday, off Monday , Tuesday & Wednesday. Then day shift Thursday & Friday, off Saturday & Sunday, Nights Monday & Tuesday, off Wednesday ,Thursday & Friday, days Saturday, Sunday & Monday off Tuesday, nights Wednesday & Thursday then off Friday Saturday Sunday & Monday and then start over Tuesday days. It helps that the weekends pay time & half. I get more sleep when I work nights but I am one that no trouble sleeping during the day. Also as someone already said you take either 2 days or 2 nights off and you are off for a week.
