i don't see a lot of 28ga ammo unless you're reloading

My buddy has a browning bps 28 gauge that just came in his store it's a smaller gun but it's also something you can keep forever and still use vs using it for a couple of years then not seeing the light of day till they have kids
We will burn that bridge when we get there

Based on ammo availability I'd probably opt for the .410. I just see folks with 28 gauges and they end up in the safe only brought out to show folks and to clean them.
Why not go with a youth 20? Low brass shell doesn't kick and shells are less expensive than either .410 or 28ga.

I would go with a 20 ga gas operated gun. The Weatherby SA-08 is a great choice.
If my only choice was between 28 and 410, I would pick the 28 ga if birds were considered. If it were only squirrel and rabbit, then the 410 with #5 or #4 shot.

I have a franchi 28 ga that I absolutely LOVE...Hampton Cove Wal-Mart carries 28 ga shells so I would think any Wal-Mart could get them for you.

My son shoots a Rem. 870 in 28ga. Light recoil and kills doves like a 20 or 12. Shells are $10 a box, but thats for a high grade shell like an AA or SPS, so they are really only about $3 a box higher than a 20/12 ga AA or SPS. My next Yildiz will be a 28.
Take your kids hunting instead of hunting your kids.
I'd rather be LOST in the woods than FOUND in the city.
Drive a hybrid, I need your gas.

I got thinking about it a little while ago. I have a youth 870 in a 20. But for a 20 its rough. Im leaning now toward a auto 20 or a 870 in the 28. I could make it easy and just get both after all I will have two boys. Think my wife would go for it. You'll also be teaching your son's a valuable lesson.....you can't have too many guns.
