You just better hope you don't meet a small limb or a blade or grass with a 30/30. Not a very good bush gun in my opinion. Now wide open area it may be alright but I would go running out to get a 30/30 to hunt deer with, when there are much better calibers available.

Only rifle I own for deer hunting. I cant think of many places that I have ever hunted that I would need to shoot 800yards. Same here. A Marlin 30-30 is the first deer rifle I ever owned as a teenager and it is still the only deer rifle I use nearly 2 decades later. I just haven't ever seen the need for anything else.

It is the brush gun by which all other brush guns are measured. Fat slow bullets in a short nimble package. What would you consider a "brush gun" ?

You've got about 10" of drop at 200 and about 5 feet at 400. Anything over 200 starts to get really difficult. No doubt in my mind it can be done, but its starting to push the limits of the caliber. I say effective range for most with a 30-30 is under 200.

W If sighted in at 100 yds, that's a 64 inch drop at 400. That's a super easy shot It was clearly a joke, glad you noticed
There is 2 different high fence. 1 small and one big! Mine was free range in the big pen and was not a breeder buck. Why does it have to be twisted around??

DK, LOL I knew you were being sarcastic. I would take that 5.56 in your sig trying for 400, before I would a 30-30. I've got a friend that thinks he can shoot accurately to 1000 yards with his .300. I told him I was willing to bet, we would place a paper plate at somewhere between 800 and 1000. I he could hit in withing 3 shots I'll give him $100. If he misses with all 3 I get a handle of Jack.

Is it a 300 blackout or standard hunting rifle. If it's an ar platform 300 I'd be cautious taking that bet because I'm sure he's got it dialed in. Then again the bet isn't too much at stake so could be bluffing
