Any collectors (diggers) here? I have thought about planting some seeds on the side of a few hills on my property in Lamar County, Alabama. Anyone have any knowledge on whether this would grow and maybe be profitable?

I think it sells for a good price but I think there's a required license to sell it, too.

It takes 15-20 years to get to harvesting size.

First thing you have to have a license from the state to dig.The deadline to get that is Aug 31. I sent you a pm about planting. It has yellowed the past week and will be gone real soon.Check out Wildgrown.com for everything about genseng.

I have ordered some seed and hopefully be planting soon. I really don't expect a profit out of this, maybe a way to enjoy our property and might even work it into the diet. Thanks for the reply's.

I have dug a lot of sang and planted a lot of the berries when I was a teenager living in the hollers of southern WV. It does not take 15-20 years to get to harvest size, probably more like 5-6 years to get to be a decent size 3 or 4 prong not huge but decent harvest size. I have a few hear at the house that I transplanted a couple years ago along with some small ones from the berries off those. If you have never hunted any sang it is not easy to find when you start out. There are a lot of things in the woods that look kinda like it but not quite. But after a couple years it will get a lot easier to spot without having to walk right up on it.

If you're gonna be stupid you better be tough.

You think turkey hunters are tight lipped until you meet a digger.
