And Monticello , everybody had your idea about the 13 side. There's deer there to be had, but can be some tough hunting. Because of too many hunters or the terrain? It looks like there is only maybe 500 acres north of the river on the helena side available now. Little bit of both... If you wanna spot...You better get to the check in station early for deer season... But if you can get to the hard to reach spots by walking..You can get to some good deer.. They have alot of gates closed to drive in traffic..but you can walk around them to hunt... MY LAST TURKEY HUNT OUT THERE WAS A 2.4 MILE WALK FROM THE GATE. STILL HAD SOMEONE DRIVE PAST ME THAT DROVE IN ON THE POWERLINE I don't doubt it... I can still get to Peel Creek by taking a short cut...even though it's blocked off... And I no longer hunt there...

PEEL CREEK IS EASY TO GET TO. Yup...but you gotta no how to get there unless they opened the gates... The new stripping company had em all closed last time I was there... But a yota will squeeze through alot of places they think are blocked off...

Why do they close so many of the gates? Can I park at most of the pumps? It seems like parking near the pumps and then walking into the woods from there would be the best bet. THEY ARE THE GAS WELL COMPANIES... THEY KEEP THEM LOCKED DUE TO THEFT AND LIABILITY REASONS, LAST YEA ALONE ON THE SETCO MINE ROAD THEY HAD $400,000.00 WORTH OF EQUIPMENT DAMAGED OR STOLEN..

Because the State subleases all the mining rights to a contract company...They have control of all the locks on the gates to protect their equipment as PEA RIDGE said...

I'd leave naming specific areas of the wma to yourself, unless you want your hopes and dreams crushed, more than they already will be. You just gotta hunt it like anywhere else, except take pressure into consideration. By the end of the season, pressure will be the single most important aspect of your decision making. I'm learning the wma as well, but have had plenty of experience on others. I'm seeing deer, but not a ton. It's hard work, I've passed a few small bucks, and am adjusting where I'm hunting for the moment.

So if I kill a deer with my bow on a non-gun day, do I have to check it in at the station? Nope! Only on gun days.

So if I kill a deer with my bow on a non-gun day, do I have to check it in at the station? YOU ARE REQUESTED TO STOP BY THE CHECK IN STATION AND RECORD THE INFO ON A LOG THE HAVE BUT IT IS NOT REQUIRED
